HSE Researchers Show How Congenital Motor Disorders Affect Brain Development
Researchers from HSE University’s Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience have synthesised the findings of their previous studies on brain development in children with obstetric brachial plexus palsy and arthrogryposis. Their analysis shows that impaired motor function in early childhood not only limits children’s motor experience but also affects memory, categorical thinking, and information processing. The study has been published in Frontiers in Psychology.

Window into the Body: Scientists Develop Neural Network to Detect Risk of 15 Diseases from Retinal Images
Russian universities, with the participation of HSE University, Sber, and Z-union, have developed a neural network that can simultaneously assess the risk of 15 types of pathology from retinal photographs, including not only eye diseases but also cardiovascular conditions. The AI system can help clinicians detect potentially concerning changes at an early stage, identify signs reflecting the condition of retinal blood vessels, and determine whether a patient may need further examination. The paper has been published in Frontiers in Medicine.

'We Did Not Limit the Time for Questions'
The International Laboratory for Supercomputer Atomistic Modelling and Multi-Scale Analysis at HSE University held a major conference on molecular dynamics. Participants had the opportunity to attend all the presentations, while speakers were given as much time as they needed to answer questions. The HSE News Service interviewed Grigory Smirnov, Head of the Laboratory, and Genri Norman, Chief Research Fellow, about the conference preparations and the discussions it generated.

Связь когнитивных и личностных характеристик с успешностью решения проблемных задач

Вестник РГГУ. Серия: Психология. Педагогика. Образование. 2022. № 2. С. 119–132.
Грудинин В. А.

Abstract. Within the framework of the conducted research, an attempt to study the relationship between cognitive and personal characteristics and the success of solving two types of problematic tasks: “scientific” and “artistic” content is made. 20 people took part in the study (80 protocols were processed). Two stages were carried out in this study – diagnostic and experimental. As for the diagnostic part, the features of the cognitive and personal characteristics of the participants were studied. The following techniques were used to study cognitive characteristics: “Raven’s Progressive Matrices” and the “Complex Analogies” technique. To study personal characteristics, we used: the questionnaire “SAMOAL” (the method of A.V. Lazukin adapted by N.F. Kalin) and the “Emotional Intelligence Test” by D.V. Lyusin. As for the experimental part of the study, participants were asked to solve 4 problematic tasks: “immeasurable vessel” and “universal cork” – based on scientific content and “gooseberry” and “over-salted” – based on artistic content. As for the results of the study, a positive relationship between autosympathy and the success of solving a problem of scientific content, and also between understanding one’s own and others’ emotions and the success of solving problematic tasks of artistic content was established; a negative relationship between the need for cognition and the success of solving artistic tasks was also established. No connection with cognitive characteristics was found.

Polarization of opinions in the group: a modeling algorithm considering the dynamics of social bonds
Chebotarev V., Andreyuk D., Elizarova Anastasiya et al., Procedia Computer Science 2022 Vol. 213 No. C P. 596–601
The dynamics of opinion in a group are of interest for a number of practical purposes. In particular, consensus helps and polarization of opinions hinders cohesive teamwork. Existing approaches for modeling opinion dynamics mostly do not take into account the dynamism of social relations in a group. This paper proposes an algorithm and a program ...

GABAergic and glutamatergic mechanisms of cortical excitability shape motor resonance during action observation as measured by Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
Ragimova A., Imanaeva M., Nieto Doval C. M. et al., Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 2026 Vol. 20 P. 1–15
Background: Motor resonance reflects the activation of the motor system during the observation of others’ actions and is considered a physiological marker of the human mirror neuron system (MNS). This study investigated whether the excitatory and inhibitory balance in the primary motor cortex, driven by glutamatergic and GABAergic mechanisms, is linked to the strength of ...

Context. The preschool period is a critical stage for the development of prosocial behavior. Children begin to understand the feelings of others, and the foundations of empathy and mutual assistance are formed. Situation-specific expressions of care can develop into more stable forms when children are embedded in a system of social relationships. However, the specific characteristics ...

Pavlova A., Тихомирова Т.

A quantum–analogue formalism for modeling supraliminal information processing
Lubashevsky I., Lubashevskiy V., Physica D: Nonlinear Phenomena 2026 Vol. 498 Article 135441
We develop a novel cloud-function formalism describing the dynamical relationship between sensory-information processing in large-scale brain networks (supraliminal processing) and the content of the mental representation of an observed object. The formalism combines elements of neural field theory for large-scale neural activity with the spatial characteristics of perceived objects and their embedding in the environment ...

Эффект категориальной различимости при разных типах загрузки рабочей памяти
Kotov A. A., Зайцева Е.

Stronger right-hemispheric involvement in language processing is associated with greater functional connectivity between the left-lateralized language-related network and the cingulo-opercular network
Karpychev V., Malyutina S., Dragoy O., Brain Structure and Function 2026 Vol. 231 Article 69
Language comprehension and production are predominantly supported by the left-lateralized language-related network (LRN). However, right-hemispheric homologs of the language regions can also contribute to language processing, resulting in reduced left-hemispheric language lateralization. To date, it remains unclear whether less left-hemispheric language lateralization is associated with the recruitment of other non-language networks and their interaction with ...
