There is a growing consensus among the U.S. establishment that the PRC constitutes a more dangerous adversary to America than the Soviet Union was during the years of the «First Cold War». They point out that China is not only military but also an economic rival to the United States. The vision of China as the main global adversary to America is widely shared among the both political parties. The American elite is united in its opinion that their country needs allies to address the challenge. That is why during the recent years Washington has been building up a net of alliances and partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region directed against China.
