‘In the Age of Technology, It Is Interesting to Look into the Past and Think about What We Can Take from It
Polina Tabakova decided to apply for a Philology degree at HSE in Nizhny Novgorod because she grew up in Mari El and did not want to move far away from the Russian forests. In an interview for the Young Scientists of HSE University project, she spoke about the genre of the campus novel, the existential drama of Kolobok, and a blackout version of Eugene Onegin.

HSE Scientists Develop Method to Compress Large Language Models Without Losing Quality
Researchers from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new compression method for large language models such as GPT and LLaMA that reduces their size by 25–36% without additional training or significant loss of accuracy. This is the first approach to use mathematical transformations—specifically, rotations of model weights—to make models more amenable to compression with structured matrices. The study results have been published in ACL Findings 2025. The code is available on GitHub.

С. 1019–1020.
Степихова М. В., Verbus V. A., Барышникова К. В., Петров М. И., Rutckaia V. V., Перетокин А. В., Юрасов Д. В., Шенгуров Д. В., Новиков А. В.

The paper discusses the resonance phenomena observed in the photoluminescence (PL) spectra of single cylindrical resonators and their chains formed on silicon structures with Ge(Si) nanoislands. The possibility of amplifying the PL signal of nanoislands in such structures by more than an order of magnitude is shown

Sharov V., Pavlov A., Eliseyev I. et al., Advanced Optical Materials 2025 Vol. 13 No. 30 Article e01821
Strain engineering is a powerful tool for the development of nanostructured semiconductor devices. In this work, the effect of high external elastic strain is investigated on the photoluminescence of GaN nanowires (NWs). Individual horizontal NWs are strained to bending strains up to 2.2% using an atomic force microscope (AFM) probe. Novel nanomanipulation techniques for mechanical ...

Optimal As/Ga flux ratio for low-temperature overgrowth of InAs quantum dots dependent on the GaAs overgrowth rate
Balakirev S. V., Makhov I., Kirichenko D. V. et al., Optical Materials 2025 Vol. 163 Article 116964
We reveal a strong dependence of optical properties of InAs quantum dots (QDs) on the As/Ga flux ratio used during the overgrowth with a low-temperature GaAs layer. Evaluating various characteristics of the photoluminescence spectra, we determine an optimal As/Ga flux ratio which allows formation of QDs emitting at the longest wavelengths, with the highest intensity and the largest ...

Correlation and exchange energies of a quantum Hall ferromagnet with 𝜈=1/3 in the strong interaction regime
P. S. Berezhnoy, Koreyev A. S., A. B. Van'kov et al., Physical Review B: Condensed Matter and Materials Physics 2024 Vol. 110 No. 23 Article 235306
Collective spin excitations were utilized to probe many-particle energies of strongly correlated quantum Hall ferromagnets (FMs) at 1/3< ν < 1. For this purpose, experiments on inelastic light scattering and polarized photoluminescence (PL) were performed on a MgZnO/ZnO heterostructure, containing a high-mobility two dimensional electron system with theWigner-Seitz parameter rs ≈ 11. The dispersion of the Larmor spin exciton ...

Phase diagram of magnetoexciton condensate
Koreyev A. S., P.S. Berezhnoy, Gorbunov A. V. et al., Physical Review B: Condensed Matter and Materials Physics 2024 Vol. 110 No. 16 Article 165417
The phase diagram of the “gas-magnetoexciton condensate” transition of an excited two-dimensional electron system placed in a quantizing magnetic field has been constructed in the “temperature-laser excitation power density” coordinates. Based on the experimental data, we can conclude that the condensate is a collective, incompressible in real space, excited state of a quantum Hall insulator. ...

Shalygin V. A., Makhov I., Adamov R. B. et al., Journal of Applied Physics 2024 Vol. 136 No. 19 Article 195703
Near-infrared photoluminescence spectra of the n-doped gallium arsenide epilayer under heating lateral electric field conditions are studied. The field dependences of hot electron and hole temperatures are determined from photoluminescence spectra and from solving the power balance equation using current–voltage characteristic. Polarization anisotropy of the photoluminescence radiation arising due to the anisotropy of hot electron distribution ...

The paper presents the results of the temperature dependences study of the luminescence spectra (3.6 – 120 K) upon excitation by 405 nm light and of the non-contact measured photoconductivity spectra (3.6 – 300 K) of a CsPbBr3 single crystal. In the low-temperature photoluminescence (PL) spectrum, in addition to the self-trapped exciton line (2.318 eV at 10 K), a rich ...

Makhov I., Kryzhanovskaya N., Dragunova A. et al., Journal of Luminescence 2024 Vol. 276 Article 120819
One drawback of self-organized quantum dots is their low optical gain. The development of new shaping methods that would allow higher gain, for example, due to a higher surface density of the QD array, remains an important task to date. In the present work, arrays of quantum dots have been formed by substituting phosphorous atoms ...

The optical properties of three-dimensional quantum-size InGaPAs islands, which are formed by substitution of phosphorous by arsenic in an InGaPAs layer deposited on GaAs directly during the epitaxial growth, are studied by photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The effect of cooling conditions in the plasma-assisted molecular-beam epitaxy growth on the structural and optical properties of InGaN nanostructures is studied. It is shown that cooling of the samples without nitrogen plasma contributes to the suppression of phase separation in InGaN nanostructures. The integrated intensity of photoluminescence from these nanostructures increased by a factor ...

The results of a study of the optical properties of self-assembled InAs/GaAs (001) quantum dots (QDs) overgrown under different arsenic pressures, obtained using photoluminescence (PL) and PL excitation spectroscopy, are presented. Gridchin V. O., Komarov S. D., Soshnikov I. P. et al., Journal of Surface Investigation: X-Ray, Synchrotron and Neutron Techniques 2024 Vol. 18 No. 2 P. 408–412
In this study, for the first time, the influence of the III/V flux ratio on the structural and optical characteristics of InGaN nanowires grown by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy are investigated. It is found that the formation of InGaN nanowires with a core–shell structure occurs when the III/V flux ratio (taking into account the In-incorporation ...

Collective Modes in the Luminescent Response of Si Nanodisk Chains with Embedded GeSi Quantum Dots
Zinovyev V., Smagina Z., Zinovieva A. et al., Photonics 2023 Vol. 10 No. 11 Article 1248
In this paper, we study the effects of GeSi quantum dot emission coupling with the collective modes in the linear chains of Si disk resonators positioned on an SiO2 layer. The emission spectra as a function of the chain period and disk radius were investigated using micro-photoluminescence (micro-PL) spectroscopy. At optimal parameters of the disk chains, two narrow ...
