‘The Peak of Stupidity and ‘The Valley of Despair: HSE Economists Propose an Explanation for the Dunning–Kruger Effect
The Dunning–Kruger effect, which describes a sharp surge in self-confidence among beginners followed by an equally rapid decline as they gain experience, can be explained by the nature of the learning process and the acquisition of new knowledge. This conclusion was reached by Andrey Vorchik of the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences together with independent researcher Murat Mamyshev. They developed a mathematical model of learning and demonstrated how subjective confidence is formed and changes as knowledge accumulates, as well as how teachers can reduce the ‘valley of despair’ experienced by learners.

Российско-индийский "тандем" в оборонном сотрудничестве с Вьетнамом

The article analyzes key characteristics of military cooperation of Russia and India with Vietnam. The problem is considered in the context of main elements of foreign and defense policy of Vietnam, and relations of Hanoi with Moscow and New Delhi. The author makes the conclusion that at the moment Russia and India are not competing, but supplementing each other in their military cooperation with Vietnam. Russia delivers weapons for Vietnam, yet India helps Hanoi at the exploitation of military equipment and trains personnel. At the same time because of complex character of the interaction with Hanoi in security sphere, India has opportunities to become in prospect a serious rival to Russia at Vietnam’s arms market.
