HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

About Using Matched Metrics in Channels with Memory for Gilbert Codes
A. M. Veresova, A. A. Ovchinnikov, , in: 2020 Wave Electronics and its Application in Information and Telecommunication Systems (WECONF).: IEEE, 2020. P. 1–4.
The main concepts of the metric description of memory channels are considered, as well as a specific metric for such channels. The spectral properties of the Gilbert code in relation to the Markov metric are analyzed. It is shown that using a matched metric increases the efficiency of channel usage. ...

Decoding of LDPC Codes for 5G Standard Using Source Distribution
A. A. Ovchinnikov, Fominykh A. A., , in: 2020 Wave Electronics and its Application in Information and Telecommunication Systems (WECONF).: IEEE, 2020. P. 1–5.
The paper examines the decoding of low-density parity-check codes taking into account the source distribution. More specifically, we consider the alteration of LLR calculation on the input of belief propagation decoder. The experimental results for binary input additive white Gaussian noise channel are presented using various source distributions. ...

To the Question of Almost Maximum-Likelihood Decoding
Afanasev M. M., Ovchinnikov A., , in: 2020 Wave Electronics and its Application in Information and Telecommunication Systems (WECONF).: IEEE, 2020. P. 1–4.
Evseev’s lemma claims that if we use the decoding by a standard array and use coset leaders having the weight not greater than Gilbert-Varshamov distance then the probability of error decoding will become not greater than the probability of error decoding of maximum-likelihood multiplied by two. However, the estimation of tightness of this bound is an open problem. In this work ...

Electrical networks and data analysis in phylogenetics
Gorbounov Vassily, Kazakov A., Data Analytics and Topology 2025 Vol. 1 No. 1 P. 33–45
A classic problem in data analysis is studying the systems of subsets defined by either a similarity or a dissimilarity function on X which is either observed directly or derived from a data set. For an electrical network there are two functions on the set of the nodes defined by the resistance matrix and the response ...

Non-linear in-band interference cancellation on base of conjugate gradients method
Degtyarev A., Bakhurin S., Yudin N., DSPA 2026 P. 1–6
This paper investigates one possible solution to the problem of self-interference cancellation (SIC) arising in the design of in-band full-duplex (IBFD) communication systems. Self-interference cancellation is performed in the digital domain using multilayer nonlinear models adapted via gradient-based optimization. The presence of local minima and saddle points during the adaptation of multilayer models limits the ...

In this paper, new numerical invariants of structurally unstable vector fields in the plane are found. One of the main tools is an improved asymptotics of sparkling saddle connections that occur when a separatrix loop of a hyperbolic saddle breaks. Another main tool is a new topological invariant of two arithmetic progressions, both perturbed and unperturbed, on the ...

Comparative Study of Training Methods and Architectures of Echo State Networks
Androsov I., Proceedings of the Institute for System Programming of the RAS 2026 Vol. 38 No. 3 P. 87–114
This paper examines echo state networks (ESNs), one of the most prevalent approaches to implementing reservoir computing. An ESN consists of a recurrent neural network with fixed (untrained) weights and a readout layer that is typically linear and trainable. This approach enables the creation of energyefficient and computationally efficient neural networks capable of real-time learning. However, since ...

High-dimensional tabular data are common in biomedical and clinical research, yet conventional machine learning methods often struggle in such settings due to data scarcity, feature redundancy, and limited generalization. In this study, we systematically evaluate Synolitic Graph Neural Networks (SGNNs), a framework that transforms high-dimensional samples into sample-specific graphs by training ensembles of low-dimensional pairwise ...

Stable On-the-Fly Learning for Dynamic Neural Networks With Delayed Inputs
Chertopolokhov V., Mukhamedov A., Bugriy G. et al., IEEE Access 2026 Vol. 14 P. 14369–14392
This study presents on-the-fly identification and multi-step prediction of nonlinear systems with delayed inputs using a dynamic neural network combined with a smooth projection onto ellipsoids. The projection enforces parameter constraints that guarantee stability, while a Lyapunov–Krasovskii analysis yields computable ultimate error bounds. Riccati-type matrix inequalities are derived, providing an efficient vectorization–projection–devectorization implementation suitable for ...

Analysis of the alternating minimization method for low-rank canonical polyadic decomposition in the Chebyshev norm
Морозов С. В., Calcolo 2026 Vol. 63 No. 2 Article 23
The approximation of tensors in a low-para metric format is a crucial component in many mathematical modelling and data analysis tasks. Among the widely used low-parametric representations, the canonical polyadic (CP) decomposition is known to be very efficient. Nowadays, most algorithms for CP approximation aim to construct the approximation in the Frobenius norm; however, some ...

The paper presents a comparison of the redundancy introduced when transmitting data using the QUIC and TCP protocols. Issues concerning the impact of redundancy—including that introduced by error-corretcing codes—on protocol efficiency are discussed. To quantitatively assess protocol performance, the protocol efficiency coefficient is introduced, defined as the ratio of the volume of payload data to ...

One of the requirements for the quality of cryptographic algorithms is the equiprobable distribution of the characters of the sequence obtained after applying the cryptographic transformation. This requirement is due to the fact that in the presence of unequal probability of signs of the output sequence, it becomes possible to construct an effective method for ...

Unsourced Random Access With the MIMO Receiver: Projection Decoding Analysis
Kirill Andreev, Ustinova D., Alexey Frolov, IEEE Wireless Communications Letters 2024 Vol. 13 No. 1 P. 69–73
We consider unsourced random access with MIMO receiver – a crucial communication scenario for future 5G/6G wireless networks. We perform a projection-based decoder analysis and derive energy efficiency achievability bounds when channel state information is unknown at transmitters and the receiver (no-CSI scenario). A comparison to the maximum-likelihood (ML) achievability bounds by Gao et al. ...

Energy efficient coded random access for the wireless uplink
Kowshik S., Kirill Andreev, Frolov A. et al., IEEE Transactions on Communications 2020 Vol. 68 No. 8 P. 4694–4708
We discuss the problem of designing channel access architectures for enabling fast, low-latency, grant-free, and uncoordinated uplink for densely packed wireless nodes. Specifically, we study random-access codes, previously introduced for the AWGN MAC, in the practically more relevant case of Rayleigh fading, when channel gains are unknown to the decoder. We propose a random coding ...

We investigate the fundamental limits of the unsourced random access over the binary-input Gaussian channel. By fundamental limits, we mean the minimal energy per bit required to achieve the target per-user probability of error. The original method proposed by Y.
