HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

Crystallization of Niobium Alkali-Silicate Glasses Under Thermal Poling

Ch. 38. P. 161–163.
Reshetov I., Zhurikhina V. V., Tagantsev D., Kaasik V., Redkov A., Melehin V.

Crystallization of a Na 2 O-K 2 O-Nb 2 O 5 -SiO 2 glass under thermal poling and subsequent annealing was studied by Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffractometry. It was found that the poling and subsequent thermal treatment lead to partial crystallization of the poled region of the glass, which should be related with watering the glass in the course of the thermal poling.

Temperature-driven charge transport in annealed CdSe/CdS nanoplatelets film
Smirnov A., Mantsevich V. N., Saitov S. R. et al., Journal of Applied Physics 2026 Vol. 139 Article 185702
This work presents a comprehensive investigation into the temperature-dependent thermally stimulated conductivity and photoconductivity of vacuum-annealed thin films based on core–shell CdSe/CdS nanoplatelets passivated with oleic acid ligands. Controlled thermal annealing under vacuum conditions leads to a substantial increase in both dark and photoinduced conductivity, which is primarily attributed to partial desorption of the ligands. ...

Disentangling hybrid lattice, orbital, and spin dynamics in CoTiO3: Raman scattering in high magnetic fields
M. A. Prosnikov, Pisarev R. V., Christianen P. C., Physical Review B: Condensed Matter and Materials Physics 2026 Vol. 113 No. 9 Article 094423
Rhombohedral CoTiO3 is a Dirac-type antiferromagnet with unique nodal magnetic dynamics, a strong Zeeman-phonon effect, and multiple spin-orbital excitations. The intricate interaction between these excitations makes it difficult to precisely understand its properties. We report the observation of strong spin-phonon coupling for several phonon modes, as well as the Zeeman splitting of the degenerate phonon modes with 𝐸𝑔 symmetry. ...

Long-range spatial velocity statistics in a rotating coherent turbulent vortex
Leon L. Ogorodnikov, Sergey S. Vergeles, Physical Review Fluids 2025 Vol. 10 No. 12 Article 124702
We study the spatial dependence of pair correlation functions of velocity field com ponents in a rotating turbulent fluid on a background of a coherent geostrophic vortex. The statistics of the turbulent pulsations are determined by their dynamics, which is the dynamics of inertial waves affected by the differential rotation in the vortex and a ...

Tatarin S., Zhuravlev I., Minin M. et al., Inorganic Chemistry 2025 Vol. 64 No. 50 P. 24579–24593
To date, the design of stable panchromatic metal complexes simultaneously exhibiting reversible redox behavior remains a challenging endeavor, underscoring the need for new ligand platforms to expand their absorption spectrum. Bovkunova A., Bazhina E., Shmelev M. et al., Russian Journal of Coordination Chemistry/Koordinatsionnaya Khimiya 2025 Vol. 51 No. 6 P. 472–487
The reaction of manganese(II) chloride with the azomethine ligand 4-((1H-pyrrol-2-yl)methylene-amino)-4H-1,2,4-triazole (HPyrtrz) affords crystals of 1D polymeric compound [MnII(HPyrtrz)(H2 O)Cl2]n (I). The addition of the coligand 1,10-phenanthroline (Phen) to the synthesis of compound I results in the sequential crystallization of two products: 1D polymeric compound [MnII(Phen)Cl2]n (II) and mononuclear complex [MnII(Phen)2Cl2]·HPyrtrz (III). Tin-Vacancy (Sn-V) colour centres in diamond have a spin coherence time in the millisecond range at temperatures of 2 K, so they are promising to be used in diamond-based quantum optical devices. However, the incorporation of large Sn atoms into a dense diamond lattice is a non-trivial problem. The objective of our work is to use ...

Embracing entropy in glass-ceramics
Ahmad Ostovari Moghaddam, Fereidonnejad R., Shaburova N. et al., Ceramics International 2024 Vol. 50 No. 17, Part A P. 29178–29184
Glass-ceramics have extensive industrial applications owing to their superior mechanical, optical and physicochemical properties compared to either glasses or ceramics. Herein, we leverage the concept of high entropy materials to broaden the available chemical compositions for tailoring the properties of glass-ceramics. Among various compositions explored, the high entropy glass 45SiO2-20Al2O3-15MgO-11Li2O-1.5TiO2-1.5ZrO2-2P2O5-2BaO-SnO2-CaO was identified as particularly promising, ...

Zhukova V., Mizuk R., Adachi I. et al., Journal of High Energy Physics 2023 Vol. 2023 Article 131
We report the first measurement of the inclusive e+e−→bb¯→D±sX and e+e−→bb¯→D0/D¯0X cross sections in the energy range from 10.63 to 11.02. Based on these results, we determine σ(e+e−→B0sB¯0sX) and σ(e+e−→BB¯X) in the same energy range. We measure the fraction of B0s events at Υ(10860) to be fs=(22.0+2.0−2.1)%. We determine also the ratio of the B0s inclusive branching fractions B(B0s→D0/D¯0X)/B(B0s→D±sX)=0.416±0.018±0.092. The results are obtained using the data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB ...
