Neural Network Maps as a Method for Constructing Mathematical Models
Scientists from HSE University–Nizhny Novgorod and the Institute of Physics Belgrade, Serbia, are jointly exploring the application of machine learning techniques and neural networks to the study of nonlinear dynamics. Natalya Stankevich, Leading Research Fellow at the Laboratory of Topological Methods in Dynamics of the Faculty of Informatics, Mathematics, and Computer Science at HSE University–Nizhny Novgorod, spoke to the HSE News Service about this international project.

‘In the Age of Technology, It Is Interesting to Look into the Past and Think about What We Can Take from It
Polina Tabakova decided to apply for a Philology degree at HSE in Nizhny Novgorod because she grew up in Mari El and did not want to move far away from the Russian forests. In an interview for the Young Scientists of HSE University project, she spoke about the genre of the campus novel, the existential drama of Kolobok, and a blackout version of Eugene Onegin.

HSE Scientists Develop Method to Compress Large Language Models Without Losing Quality
Researchers from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new compression method for large language models such as GPT and LLaMA that reduces their size by 25–36% without additional training or significant loss of accuracy. This is the first approach to use mathematical transformations—specifically, rotations of model weights—to make models more amenable to compression with structured matrices. The study results have been published in ACL Findings 2025. The code is available on GitHub.

Business Schools’ Positioning in Eastern Europe and the CIS: a Conceptual Framework
Olga E. Tishchenko, Journal of Siberian Federal University. Series: Humanities & Social Sciences 2023 Vol. 16 No. 3 P. 405–417
The business education market in several Eastern European and CIS countries appeared much later than in Western Europe and the United States because its formation was a consequence of the transition from a centrally planned economy to a new economic formation at the end of the 20th century. In this article, the author analyzes the ...

On Friedrichs-type inequalities in domains rarely perforated along the boundary.” Journal of Inequalities and Applications
Koroleva Y., Chechkin G. A., Persson L. -., Journal of Inequalities and Applications 2011 No. 2011 Article 129
This article is devoted to the Friedrichs inequality, where the domain is periodically perforated along the boundary. It is assumed that the functions satisfy homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions on the outer boundary and that they vanish on the perforation. In particular, it is proved that the best constant in the inequality converges to the best ...

What Does Academic Mobility Mean In The 21st Century? International Experience Of Young Russian Scholars And The Idea Of University
Королева А. А., Кобзева В. И., / Series HUM "Humanities". 2020.
The paper investigates interviews from the archive of Poletayev Institute for Theoretical and Historical Studies in the Humanities (IGITI) which were conducted in 2010s with Russian scholars and professors. The data from these interviews is used to study transnational academic mobility experience in the post-Soviet years (2000s–2010s) by young Russian scholars – the respondents of ...

Limit behaviour of diffusion in high-contrast periodic media and related Markov semigroups
Piatnitski A., Pirogov S. A., Zhizhina E., Applicable Analysis 2019 Vol. 98 No. 1-2 P. 217–231
The goal of the paper is to describe the large time behaviour of a symmetric diffusion in a high-contrast periodic environment and to characterize the limit process under the diffusive scaling. We consider separately the C_0 and L^2 settings. ...

“Strange term”in homogenization of attractors of reaction–diffusion equation in perforated domain
Bekmaganbetov K., Chechkin G., Chepyzhov V. V., Chaos, Solitons and Fractals 2020 Vol. 140 P. 110208
We consider reaction–diffusion equation in perforated domain, with rapidly oscillating coefficient in boundary conditions. We do not assume any Lipschitz condition for the nonlinear function in the equa- tion, so, the uniqueness theorem for the corresponding initial boundary value problem may not hold for the considered reaction-diffusion equation. We prove that the trajectory attractors of ...

The homogenization of diffusion-convection equations in non-periodic structures
Meirmanov A. M., Galtsev O. V., Turkish Journal of Mathematics 2020 Vol. 44 P. 1054–1064
We consider the homogenization of diffusion-convective problems with given divergence-free velocities in nonperiodic structures defined by sequences of characteristic functions the first sequence . These quence of concentration the second sequence is uniformly bounded in the space of square-summable functions with square-summable derivatives with respect to spatial variables. At the same time, the sequence of ...

Мейрманов А. М., Гальцев О. В., Гриценко С. А., Известия РАН. Серия математическая 2019 Т. 83 № 2 С. 142–173
We consider an initial-boundary value problem describing the process of filtration of a weakly viscous fluid in two distinct porous media with common boundary. We prove, at the microscopic level, the existence and uniqueness of a generalized solution of the problem on the joint motion of two incompressible elastic porous (poroelastic) bodies with distinct Lamé constants and ...

The motion of the liquids is described by the Stokes equations driven by the input pressure and the force of gravity. For flows in ...

Quantized tensor FEM for multiscale problems: diffusion problems in two and three dimensions
Kazeev V., Oseledets I., Rakhuba M. et al., / Series math "arxiv.org". 2020.
Homogenization in terms of multiscale limits transforms a multiscale problem with n+1 asymptotically separated microscales posed on a physical domain D⊂ℝd into a one-scale problem posed on a product domain of dimension (n+1)d by introducing n so-called "fast variables". This procedure allows to convert n+1 scales in d physical dimensions into a single-scale structure in (n+1)d dimensions. We prove here that both the original, physical multiscale problem and the ...

The problem of identifying the leading universities in a country is rather easy to solve, one may focus, for example, on highly cited papers (e.g. Tijssen, Visser & van Leeuwen, 2002; Pislyakov & Shukshina, 2014; Abramo & D’Angelo, 2015) or other indicators of excellence. Sometimes it is more challenging to find the universities of "the ...

Maiofis M., М.: Новое литературное обозрение, 2008.
This book explores the history of the Arzamas, famed as a literary circle, whose interests extended far past literature. In my book I argue that Arzamas members sought liberalization of the Russian state. At its most visionary, the Arzamas project called for the creation of a Pan-European federal system, based on a constitutional form of ...

We present a method for evaluating elastic properties of a composite material produced by molding a resin filled with short elastic fibers. A flow of the filled resin is simulated numerically using a mesh-free method. After that, assuming that spatial distribution and orientation of fibers are not significantly changed during polymerization, effective elastic moduli of ...

The Soviet Flagship University Model and Its Contemporary Transition
Froumin I., Leshukov O., , in: The New Flagship University: Changing the Paradigm from Global Ranking to National Relevancy.: L.: Palgrave Macmillan, 2016. Ch. 8 P. 173–189.
The chapter aims to explore the special model of flagship universities that emerged in the former socialist Soviet system and analyse their contemporary transition. A planned state economy requires the development of a sophisticated hierarchical typology of higher education institutions with flagship universities positioned at the top of the hierarchy. The Soviet higher education model ...
