Basilicas widely appeared in Russian architecture only in the middle of the 19th century and then spread in the first half of the 20th century as regimental churches. In 1901 Fedor Wierzbicki designed a project of regimental basilica on request of the Russian Minister of War Aleksey Kuropatkin. However, he was not the first to use the form of basilica: a few such churches were already built. Moreover, despite Wierzbicki’s project, one can find several basilicas, built in 1900s – 1910s, which were based on other projects.
