The vertical wave propagation in an inhomogeneous compressible atmosphere is studied in the framework of a linear theory. Under specific conditions imposed on atmospheric parameters, solutions can be found in the form of propagating waves with variable amplitudes and wave numbers that do not reflect in the atmosphere in spite of its strong inhomogeneity. Model representations for the sound speed have been found, for which waves can propagate in the atmosphere without reflection. A wave energy flux retains these reflectionless profiles, which confirms that energy can be transferred to high altitudes. The number of these model representations is fairly large, which makes it possible to approximate real vertical distributions of the sound speed in the Earth’s atmosphere using piecewise reflectionless profiles. The Earth’s standard atmosphere is shown to be well approximated by four reflectionless profiles with weak jumps in the sound speed gradient. It has been established that the Earth’s standard atmosphere is almost completely transparent for the considered vertical acoustic waves in a wide range offrequencies, which is confirmed by observational data and conclusions derived using numerical solutions of original equations.

High-quality planar cavities with low-absorption mirrors based on Al0.2Ga0.8As/Al0.9Ga0.1As layers demonstrate continuous wave lasing at a wavelength of 956 nm. At 300 K, the threshold power density and the quality-factor at the threshold are 4.2 kW/cm2 and 6800. Increasing the pump level above two thresholds results in an enlargement in the quality-factor to at least 19 ...

In recent years, a number of studies have predicted the emergence of a nontrivial proximity effect in superconductor/antiferromagnet (S/AF) heterostructures. This effect is of considerable interest for the efficient integration of antiferromagnetic materials into the fields of superconducting spintronics and electronics. A key element of this proximity effect is the Néel triplet correlations, initially predicted ...

The miniaturization of superconducting electronics demands precise control over quasiparticle dynamics at the nanoscale. Understanding and controlling quasiparticle dynamics is essential for advancing superconducting electronics, particularly as device dimensions approach the nanoscale. Here we present direct experimental evidence for the quasiparticle-to-supercurrent conversion in planar SN-N-NS Josephson nanobridges with submicron electrodes. By employing a versatile measurement ...

We develop a full microscopic theory for the optical conductivity 𝜎(𝜔) of a dirty current-carrying superconductor. Within the Keldysh sigma model formalism, we obtain the general analytical expression for 𝜎(𝜔), applicable for arbitrary frequency 𝜔, temperature 𝑇, and dc supercurrent 𝐼. In addition to altering the usual Mattis-Bardeen conductivity 𝜎1(𝜔), a finite supercurrent introduces two new contributions: 𝜎qp2(𝜔) from quasiparticle redistribution and 𝜎SH2(𝜔) from the amplitude ...

A dissipationless supercurrent state in superconductors can be destroyed by thermal fluctuations. Thermally activated phase slips provide a finite resistance of the sample and are responsible for dark counts in superconducting single-photon detectors. The activation barrier for a phase slip is determined by a space-dependent saddle-point (instanton) configuration of the order parameter. In the one-dimensional ...

Drosophila homeotic gene Abdominal-B (Abd-B) is controlled throughout development by four infraabdominal (iab) regulatory domains, the active or repressed state of which is determined by initiators that have parasegment-specific enhancer activity at an early stage of embryonic development. The specification of abdominal segments A5 to A9 depends on the expression of Abdominal-B (Abd-B), which is regulated by four infraabdominal domains: iab-5 through iab-8,9. Each iab domain contains an initiation element that determines its active state, along with enhancers responsible for tissue-specific activation of Abd-B. These iab domains function autonomously due to their flanking boundaries, Fab-6, Fab-7 and Fab-8, which both block crosstalk between adjacent iab domains (insulator function) and facilitate long-range ...

Background/Objectives: Transcriptional promoters play an essential role in regulating protein expression. Promoters with weak activity generally lead to low levels of expression, resulting in fewer proteins being produced.
