«Переходное поколение»: поколенческая идентичность миллениалов
The article analyzes Russian millennials’ perceptions of their generation. Despite
the correspondence of Russian millennials to the general characteristics described in the foreign
academic discussion, the article notes that the experience of the Russian millennial generation differs
from the global one, as for the most part it includes the national historical and cultural context. The
theoretical aspects of the article are based both on classical approaches to generational studies and
on contemporary debates about how individuals inhabit global and national experiences during their
formative years. Based on Korsten’s discursive approach, the paper examines the narratives of three
age cohorts of St. Petersburg residents. The analysis of the empirical material revealed a discourse on
the transitional nature of the generation, conceptualized by informants within the technology, political
structure, and socio-economic well-being of Russia during their formative years.
