‘This Format Turned Each Presentation Into a Collaborative Effort to Assess the Robustness of the Study
On October 16, 2026, HSE ICEF hosted the Eighth International Conference on Applied Economics. Held fully on-site, the conference brought researchers from HSE University, the New Economic School, Wuhan University, and Shandong University together in Moscow. The programme was organised around three overarching themes— ‘Environment, Resources and Policy,’ ‘Migration, Labour, and Communication,’ and ‘Consumption, Behaviour, and Climate—offering an opportunity to see how similar economic mechanisms operate in China, Pakistan, the United States, and Russia.

‘I Always Conduct Research on Topics That Genuinely Matter to Me
Anastasiia Deeva studies the socio-economic consequences of excess weight in Russia. In an interview for the Young Scientists of HSE University project, she spoke about why beauty cannot be measured, her desire to write a novel, ‘Dostoevskian’ burnout, and working at the hotel where The Shining was filmed.

'Cultural Studies Seeks to Understand What Lies Beneath the Surface of Everyday Things'
Maxim Zhiganov has been exploring different aspects of sound for many years—first in relation to his native Perm and then on a broader, global scale. In this interview for the HSE Young Scientists project, he talks about sound maps, the special issue of the journal Logos, and why it is important to make the familiar less clear and obvious.

Mitochondria-targeted triphenylphosphonium-based compounds inhibit FcεRI-dependent degranulation of mast cells by preventing mitochondrial dysfunction through Erk1/2
Pavlyuchenkova A., Roman A. Zinovkin, Makievskaya C. et al., Life Sciences 2022 Vol. 288 Article 120174
FcεRI-dependent activation and degranulation of mast cells (MC) play an important role in allergic diseases. We have previously demonstrated that triphenylphosphonium (TPP)-based antioxidant SkQ1 inhibits mast cell degranulation, but the exact mechanism of this inhibition is still unknown. This study focused on investigating the influence of TPP-based compounds SkQ1 and C12TPP on FcεRI-dependent mitochondrial dysfunction and signaling during MC ...

Extrusion of mitochondria: Garbage clearance or cell–cell communication signals?
Lyamzaev K., Zinovkin R., Chernyak B., Journal of Cellular Physiology 2022 Vol. 237 No. 5 P. 2345–2356
Mitochondria are dynamic organelles that regulate various intracellular signaling pathways, including the mechanisms of programmed cell death, differentiation, inflammation, and so on. Mitochondria may be extruded as membrane enveloped or as free organelles during developmental processes, inflammatory activation, and in the process of “garbage clearance” of damaged mitochondria in postmitotic cells. Extracellular mitochondria can be ...

An integrative proteomics method identifies a regulator of translation during stem cell maintenance and differentiation
Sabatier P., Beusch C., Maltseva D. et al., Nature Communications 2021 No. 12 Article 6558
Detailed characterization of cell type transitions is essential for cell biology in general and particularly for the development of stem cell-based therapies in regenerative medicine. To systematically study such transitions, we introduce a method that simultaneously measures protein expression and thermal stability changes in cells and provide the web-based visualization tool ProteoTracker. We apply our ...
