One of the most visible changes of Russian foreign policy over the last several years has been declaration of its course towards a return to Africa. After considering the continent as peripheral direction over the last three decades, Russia has finally decided to increase its economic and political presence there. Africa's attractiveness is related with two factors. First, Russia needs the continent's potential as a market for goods and services. Second, non of the African states perceives Russia as an adversary, former colonizer or potential hegemon.
