Proteins of the Vesicular Cycle as a Marker of Neuroplasticity of Dopaminergic Neurons in the Substantia Nigra of the Brain

Doklady Biochemistry and Biophysics. 2019. Vol. 489. No. 1. P. 399–402.
Pavlova E. N., Mingazov E. R., Surkov S. A., Ugrumov M.

Nigrostriatal dopaminergic neurons (DNs), involved in the regulation of motor function, are characterized
by a high plasticity. Indeed, at the death of up to 50% of DNs in Parkinson’s disease, the survived
neurons provide normal regulation. This study was aimed to determine whether the vesicle cycle proteins,
syntaxin Ia (Syn Ia), synaptotagmin I (Syt I), Rab5a, and complexins I and II (Cmpx I and II) are involved
in the mechanisms of neuroplasticity in the substantia nigra, which mainly contains cell bodies and processes
of the DNs. In the neurotoxic models of Parkinson’s disease in mice, it was shown that, at the degeneration
of up to 50% of DNs, the content of Syt I, Syn Ia, and Cmpх I and II, involved in vesicle exocytosis, does not
change in the substantia nigra as a whole but is compensatorily increased in individual survived DNs. Thus,
the data obtained in this study suggest that the impairment of motor behavior, which occurs at the death of
half of the nigrostriatal DNs, is not caused by the impairment of the production of vesicle cycle proteins in
the survived DNs.

Ekaterina D. Riumina, Klink G. V., Alekseeva E. et al., PNAS, США 2026 Vol. 123 No. 35 P. 1–20
The role of escape from the cytotoxic T cell (CTL) response in SARS-CoV-2 evolution remains controversial. Here, we study the origin and spread of SARS-CoV-2 variants whose mutations reduce presentation by the HLA class I alleles common in human populations. We find that 35% of mutations that are characteristic of the variants of concern, and ...

A New Recruitable E3 Ligase UHRF1 Supporting Targeted Protein Degradation: A Minimal Azide as a Recruitment Ligand
Gureev M., Advanced Science 2026 P. 1–13
Targeted protein degradation represents a promising therapeutic strategy, yet its broader application is often limited by the scarcity of usable E3 ligases. Glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) is a key target for inducing ferroptosis, but achieving sustained and potent inhibition remains challenging with conventional enzymatic inhibitors. Herein, we report the first small‐molecule GPX4 degraders that incorporate ...

The common marmoset is a New World monkey widely used to study primate evolution and human disease. We present a telomere-to-telomere (T2T) reference assembly for the species, plus three near-T2T haplotypes. These resolve previously inaccessible regions, including the centromeres, sex chromosomes, subterminal satellites, acrocentric chromosomes, and the major histocompatibility complex (MHC). We find marmoset centromeres ...

Poddiakov A., / Series Social Science Research Network "Social Science Research Network". 2026. No. 7437658.
Clarity of knowledge and reasoning is necessary in many cases. Yet vagueness in scientific thinking related to surprise, curiosity, "ability to engage with not-knowing" (de Freitas) and abductive reasoning is also a crucially important source of scientific creativity which supplements combinatorial logic when dealing with the already known. Starting from studies by C. S. Peirce ...
