The volume reviews the complex of issues associated with the problem of Empires: theoretical research of the problem of empires; different aspects of the history of Russian (Soviet) Empire and its territories which have joined; the history of one of the earliest colonial empires, the Portuguese empire; the collapse of the late French empire; the political process occurring in the “wreckage” of world empires; and a summary on the effects of the collapse of empires. This problem is very relevant because of the development of “post-imperial syndrome” in the contemporary Russian society. The articles are authored by leading experts on domestic and world history, as well as young scientists and students of the Higher School of Economics.
This book can be useful to historians, political scientists, philosophers, journalists, and a wide range of readers.
