Historical problems in contemporary Russian-Japanese relations are a serious obstacle for cooperation between two countries. Understanding the specifics of Japan's politics of memory is key in building of the Russian strategy. Moreover, some Japanese principles, for example, historical succession, can be used by Russia to make its politics of memory more effective in international relations.
