CIKM ’21: Proceedings of the 30th ACM International conference on information and knowledge management
It is our great honour to welcome you to CIKM 2021, the ACM International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management. This is a special year, as it marks the 30th occurrence of CIKM since it was established in 1992 with an inaugural conference in Baltimore, USA. While CIKM 2021 was originally planned to take place on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, hosted by The University of Queensland, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CIKM was held online for the second year, from the 1st to the 5th of November 2021.
CIKM provides an international forum for presentation and discussion of research on information and knowledge management, as well as recent advances on data and knowledge bases. The purpose of the conference is to identify challenging problems facing the development of future knowledge and information systems, and to shape future directions of research by soliciting and reviewing high quality, applied and theoretical research findings. An important part of the conference is the Workshops program which focuses on timely research challenges and initiatives. CIKM has a strong tradition of workshops devoted to emerging areas of database management, information retrieval, and related fields.
CIKM 2021 received over 2,300 valid submissions across all paper tracks from over 8,000 distinct authors. CIKM 2021 featured 7 tracks. The Full Paper Track received 1,251 submissions, of which 271 were accepted (21.7% acceptance rate). The Applied Papers Track received 290 submitted, of which 70 were accepted (24.1%). The Short Papers Track received 626 submissions, of which 177 were accepted (28.3%). The Resource Track received 80 submissions, of which 25 were accepted (31.3%). The Demo Papers Track received 81 submissions, of which 35 were accepted (43.2%). Finally, the program was complemented by 9 workshops, 9 tutorials and the CIKM 2021 Analyticup, which featured two tasks organised by QQ Browser, Tencent: 'Multimodal Video Understanding' and 'Automated Hyperparameter Optimization of Recommendation System'. The proceedings of CIKM 2021 are published by ACM and are openly available throughout the duration of the conference.
The high quality CIKM 2021 scientific program would have not been possible without the dedication and effort of the highly qualified panel of PC Chairs that have overseen the review process and 1,600+ reviewers and senior PC members that provided insightful feedback about the research contributions. In particular, in both the Full Paper and Applied Paper tracks, submissions were assigned to qualified international reviewers and senior PC members for review and decision-making. Submissions in all other tracks were reviewed by a heterogeneous panel of reviewers, and PC Chairs were responsible for the meta-reviewing of the submissions. In all cases, reviewers and senior PC members were selected by the CIKM 2021 PC chairs based on a thorough selection process, considering their prior work and expertise.
