Влияние преподавателей и выпускников на формирование взглядов студентов на иноязычные потребности в профессиональной деятельности
University graduates of Russian Federation universities are facing increasing workplace demands regarding their capacity to use foreign languages in professional settings. The current State Educational Standards call for designing and implementing efficient practice-oriented language learning programs. The present study aimed to identify motivating factors influencing students’ views on learning professionally oriented foreign language as one of the elements of university course effectiveness. Of particular interest was the suggestion that such explicitly motivating factors can be teachers’ views on language learning and the shared characteristics of the educational process and future professional context of foreign language use as perceived by students. All four language skills, the context of current foreign language education programs and the use of a foreign language at the workplace were considered. Data were collected among students at different levels of study, teachers and employed graduates of the National Research University. The results obtained can indicate several noticeable discrepancies between the perceptions of the target groups regarding the context of workplace language use and need for professionally oriented foreign language. Overall the dynamics in the students' perception of the learning process under the influence of the investigated factors. The pedagogical implications are discussed, and further actions are suggested.
