In the introductory article to the issue of the ‘Researcher’ journal dedicated to environmental literacy, the author emphasizes the significance of environmental education and the promotion of environmental literacy as a way of developing environmentally responsible behavior of each person. Environmental literacy is seen as one of the key components of the new literacy of a modern person. Research and project activity is viewed as an effective way to build and increase environmental awareness. A commentary is given on the materials published in this issue of the journal in their relation to the main topic of the issue.
