IEEE 23rd Conference on Business Informatics (CBI)
The IEEE International Conference on Business Informatics (CBI) series encourages a broad understanding of Business Informatics research, and intends to promote its many different facets, theoretical foundations and experiential body of knowledge. In doing so, the CBI series has proven to be a fertile ground for research with high impact, and a hub for multidisciplinary research with contributions from Management Science, Organization Science, Economics, Information Systems, Computer Science, and Informatics. In this 23rd edition, we have issued a call-for-papers featuring the following tracks: - Enterprise Modeling, Engineering and Architecture - Artificial intelligence for Business - Data-Driven Business Analytics and Applications - Business Process Management - Information Systems Engineering - Information Systems Management - Business Innovations and Digital Transformation - Ethics and Legal Norms in Business Informatics - Finance and Informatics - Industry 4.0 (Industry Applications) We have selected 21 papers out of 68 submissions (31%) for presentation at the main conference and publication in this volume of the proceedings. Each submission was reviewed by three Program Committee members and received a recommendation from the corresponding Track Chairs. An additional 14 submissions were selected for publication in companion proceedings (Vol. 2). These will be presented at the conference's first day CBI Forum along with papers accepted for three workshops. The CBI Forum grew out of the CBI 2020 Business Informatics in Practice workshop, targeting research in progress, novel ideas, discussion papers, etc. We expect the CBI Forum to become a regular event within the CBI series. In addition to the technical sessions, we have two excellent keynote speeches planned for the second and third days of the conference: Prof. Ernie Davis (New York University) will talk about "Automating Commonsense Reasoning – Where Do We Stand?" and Prof. Cesar A. Hidalgo (University of Toulouse) will talk about "The Design and Implementation of Data Distribution Systems". Due to the continued COVID-19 crisis, the conference takes place virtually for the second year in a row. We would like to thank the University of Bozen-Bolzano for the generous offer to host the conference and for the support in the realization of the conference in this virtual format. IEEE CBI 2021 is hosted in the context of the Bolzano Summer of Knowledge (BOSK 2.0), a series of scientific events hosted in the city of Bozen-Bolzano (Italy) throughout September. This year, BOSK includes highly relevant events, such as the International Conference on Formal Ontology in Information Systems (FOIS), the International Conference on Biomedical Ontologies (ICBO), the International Conference on Conceptual Structures (ICCS), and many others.
