‘Science Is Universal-It Knows No Borders
Fuad Aleskerov, Tenured Professor and Director of the International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis at HSE University, together with his colleagues, has developed methods of network analysis in bibliometrics that have made it possible to identify patterns in the appearance and citation of publications in academic journals, as well as their influence on each other. When one or a number of studies are frequently cited by a wide range of journals, this is an indicator that the research is of high quality. By contrast, extensive cross-citation within a limited group of journals increases the likelihood of identifying a network of predatory publications.

Maria K., Hyperboreus 2025 Vol. 31 No. 1 P. 56–76
The article reconstructs the origins of Ovid’s expression longus Hellespontus (Met. 13. 407; Fast. 4. 567; 6. 341 where the toponym invariably stands at the end of the hexameter, while the epithet is placed separately in a hyperbaton; cf. Fast. 4. 278 and Trist. 1. 10. 15–18). The epithet longus is accurate in that it ...

Olybrius or an Unknown Neronian Poet? The Date and Authorship of the Einsiedeln Eclogues Reconsidered
Shumilin M., Materiali e Discussioni per l'Analisi dei Testi Classici 2025 Vol. 95 P. 141–181
The paper examines the arguments of the proponents of a post-Neronian dating for the Einsiedeln Eclogues and in particular Justin Stover’s theory that these poems were composed by Anicius Hermogenianus Olybrius, the consul of AD 395. It is suggested that Stover’s evidence, just like the arguments adduced by other scholars who suggest that the Einsiedeln ...

In this article, three textually problematic passages from the Ciris, a variously dated short poem from the Appendix Vergiliana, are discussed. In line 63, it is suggested that B. Kayachev’s proposal to change erroribus auctor to auctoribus error should be accompanied by an emendation of istorum to est idem (the meaning of the line will ...

Poems without Poets: Approaches to Anonymous Ancient Poetry
Cambridge: Cambridge Philological Society, 2021.
The canon of classical Greek and Latin poetry is built around big names, with Homer and Virgil at the centre, but many ancient poems survive without a firm ascription to a known author. This negative category, anonymity, ties together texts as different as, for instance, the orally derived Homeric Hymns and the learned interpolation that ...

Данте – Петрарка – Тассо: топос поэта-изгнанника
Andreev M., Диалог со временем 2018 Т. 62 С. 359–365
The article examines the topos of an "exile poet", which is a subvariant of the topos "poet-sufferer". It gained special popularity in the era of Romanticism, when it became firmly part of the poetic language and an element of self-description for poetry. But his roots are long-standing. Already Dante gave this topos motifs of moral ...

Couleur locale у Овидия (две заметки)
Shumilin M., Индоевропейское языкознание и классическая филология 2018 Т. 22 № 2 С. 1392–1400
The paper considers two cases of Ovid’s playful treatment of features specific for the locations of his narrative. In Ov. Met. 6.673 the piece of Tereus’ armor that is being transformed into hoopoe’s beak is described in a contradictory way: rather as a spear or a prolonged point (praelonga cuspis), while the context more probably ...

The paper attempts to reconstruct the history of the text of four poems published in 1588 as belonging to Cornelius Gallus (AL 914-917) and generally considered to be a 16th century fake. It is suggested that the text was heavily reworked by several humanists, but behind these reworkings some core deriving from a medieval manuscript ...
