The article presents the dynamics of the water intensity of the economy in Russia as a whole, as well as in the federal districts for the period 2000-2014 from the point of view of providing target indicators in accordance with the guidelines of the Water Strategy. The dynamics of water consumption and the relationship between the water intensity of the economy and the structure of water consumption in the regions of the Russian Federation are analyzed. The most problematic regions were identified by the indicator under study.
