Scientists Develop Algorithm for More Reliable Processors in Data Centres
Researchers from HSE MIEM and Samara University have developed the LRF-3D algorithm to automatically bypass idle nodes in three-dimensional networks-on-chip. Thanks to its hierarchical architecture, the algorithm outperforms existing solutions in both speed and path accuracy, improving processor reliability for use in data centres, supercomputers, and AI computing. The source code and test results are publicly available.

Researchers Develop Method for Direct Generation of Regulatory DNA
Researchers at HSE University have developed a model for generating promoters and enhancers—DNA sequences that regulate gene activity. The model works directly with DNA nucleotides, without first transforming them into a continuous numerical representation. This solution could be useful for applications in synthetic biology and gene therapy. The study results were presented at the ICLR 2026 Workshop ‘Generative AI in Genomics (Gen^2): Barriers and Frontiers.’

Social Integration: At the Crossroads of Knowledge and Values
The International Laboratory for Social Integration Research (ILSIR) at HSE University studies the challenges faced by vulnerable groups and explores ways to help them participate fully in everyday life. To develop effective solutions, the laboratory’s researchers combine cutting-edge methods with practical fieldwork. In this interview with the HSE News Service, Laboratory Head Elena Iarskaia-Smirnova discusses the laboratory’s work.

В., Sieber I. et al., Физиология человека 2026 Т. 52 № 3 С. 5–15
The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency following response (FFR) for the analysis of the intact perception of syllables in humans. For this purpose, event-related potentials (ERPs) in response to isolated Russian syllables were recorded and analyzed in 29 healthy persons in two frequency ranges, standard (1-40 Hz) and high frequency (70-150 ...

The article is a part of a comprehensive study of the linguistic characteristics of teacher’s speech, which contribute to the success of the pedagogical discourse. Based on a survey of secondary school students and an analysis of previous research in the field, non-syntactic pauses of hesitation were chosen as the object of the study, i. ...

И., Acta Linguistica Petropolitana.
This study investigates the role of hesitation pauses in spoken teacher discourse and their duration in the perception and short-term memorization of lexical items. While previous research has suggested that certain disfluencies, including hesitation pauses, can facilitate comprehension and memorization, the specific conditions under which this occurs remain unclear. To address this gap, an experimental ...

Polyakova A. A., Этнопсихолингвистика 2024 Т. 2 № 17 С. 45–62
The problem of perception and generation of speech by children is in the focus of present-day research. The novelty of the study lies in the consideration of these processes from the viewpoint of the influence on them of the pathology of the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system, namely, infantile cerebral palsy (CP). The review ...

Evoked Potentials of the Human Midbrain and Cortex Registered in Response to the Transition from a Consonant to a Vowel Sound
Kantserova A. O., Oknina L. B., Pitskhelauri D. I. et al., Human Physiology 2025 Vol. 50 No. 6 P. 551 –558
Speech is a continuous stream of sounds. To perceive speech, it is necessary to allocate discrete units with different frequency, volume, and duration during its sounding. The purpose of this study was to identify the responses of the human cortex and midbrain to the transition from a consonant to a vowel sound in a syllable. ...

Morphosyntactic prediction in automatic neural processing of spoken language: EEG evidence
Alexeeva M., Myachykov A., Бермудез-Маргаретто Б. et al., Brain Research 2024 Article 1836
Automatic parsing of syntactic information by the human brain is a well-established phenomenon, but its mechanisms remain poorly understood. Its best-known neurophysiological reflection is the so-called early left-anterior negativity (ELAN) component of event-related potentials (ERPs), with two alternative hypotheses for its origin: (1) error detection, or (2) morphosyntactic prediction/priming. To test these alternatives, we conducted ...

Opposite effects of rapid auditory stimulation on tetanized and non-tetanized tone of adjacent frequency: Mismatch negativity study
Kostanian D., Daria Kleeva, Soghoyan G. et al., Plos One 2023 Vol. 18 No. 8 Article e0289964
Our study describes the effects of sensory tetanization on neurophysiological and behavioral measures in humans linking cellular studies of long-term potentiation with high-level brain processes. Rapid (every 75ms) presentation of pure tone (1020 Hz, 50ms) for 2 minutes was preceded and followed by oddball blocks that contained the same stimulus presented as deviant (probability of ...

The Role of the Midbrain in the Perception of Tone Sequences and Speech: An Analysis of Individual Studies
Oknina L. B., Kantserova A. O., Pitskhelauri D. I. et al., Human Physiology 2023 Vol. 49 No. 4 P. 347–356
Human speech is a complex combination of sounds and auditory events. To date, there is no consensus on how speech perception occurs. Does the brain react to each sound in the flow of speech separately, or are discrete units distinguished in the sound series and analyzed by the brain as one sound event. The pilot ...

Evoked Potentials Appearing in the Human Midbrain after Sounding of a Simple Tone
Kantserova A. O., Oknina L. B., Pitskhelauri D. I. et al., Neuroscience and Behavioral Physiology 2023 Vol. 53 No. 3 P. 358–364
Studies of neuron activity in animals have shown that the brainstem is involved in processing the ends of sounds. We report here an analysis of the reaction of the human midbrain to the ends of sound stimuli. Electrical activity was recorded using a depth electrode located in the cerebral aqueduct. The study was conducted as ...
