Origin of Sources of Repeating Fast Radio Bursts with Periodicity in Close Binary Systems
Research Notes of the AAS. 2020. Vol. 4. No. 6. P. 98.
Popov S.
It is proposed that sources of repeating fast radio bursts with detected periodicity are magnetars with extremely short initial spin periods at the protoneutron star stage, formed in binaries after tidal synchronization of their progenitor cores during late stages of thermonuclear burning in very close systems with orbital periods about a few days. This formation channel is in several respects different from evolution of progenitors of normal magnetars, and thus, it explains some differences between repeating and non-repeating sources of fast radio bursts.

Numerous studies have provided compelling evidence that the probability distribution of avalanche sizes follows a power law, and that 1/f noise is present in the stochastic dynamics of landslides. We present a theoretical explanation of these phenomena within the framework of self-organized criticality theory, proposing a discrete-time model in the form of a sandpile cellular ...

A discrete-time model is presented for the self-organization of the X/Twitter social network to the edge of a phase transition, characterized by avalanche-like propagation of information in the network. The model is based on the analogy between the critical dynamics of the X social network and sandpile cellular automata with Manna rule on the Chung-Lu ...

Superconducting properties of metallic micro- and nanowires can be entirely different from those of bulk superconductors. Of particular interest is the nonequilibrium current-induced state of a quasi-one-dimensional superconducting channel. The most interesting phenomenon here is the stepped I–V characteristic, explained by a process known as phase slip center activation. If the origin of such step-like ...

Machine learning (ML) has become a powerful tool for accelerating the development of carbon-based supercapacitors;
however, most published models assume that a single predictive framework can describe both conventional
porous carbons and hybrid carbon electrodes. Here, we test this assumption using a comprehensive
benchmark dataset and an extended literature-curated dataset enriched with synthesis- and electrolyte-related
descriptors. Three ML algorithms ...

This paper compares the ranging precision of direct time-of-flight (dToF) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) LiDAR architectures, both using a superconducting nanowire single-photon detector (SNSPD). Both systems operate at 1550 nm with a 50 ps pulsed laser and time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC). The dToF configuration achieved approximately 100 µm precision at 10 m, while the NLOS configuration achieved 500 µm precision for ...

Designing stable quantum computers with the ability to correct errors responsibly requires a detailed understanding of the physical processes that underlie these devices. In this study, detailed quantum mechanical simulations of the atomic structure, charge distribution of electron density, and distribution and orientation of magnetic and quantum states as a function of applied external pressure ...

The results of a study of the short gamma-ray burst GRB 231115A in the X-ray and gamma-ray ranges are presented, based on data from the INTEGRAL and Fermi space observatories. The source of the burst is localized by the IBIS/ISGRI telescope of INTEGRAL observatory with an accuracy of ${≤}1.\!\!^'5$, it is located in the Cigar ...

Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are bright, millisecond-scale radio flashes of unknown physical origin1. Young, highly magnetized, isolated neutron stars—magnetars—have been suggested as the most promising candidates for FRB progenitors owing to their energetics and high X-ray flaring activity2,3. Here we report the detection with Konus-Wind of a hard X-ray event of 28 April 2020 temporally ...

The process of the plasma ejection formation from the accreting neutron star is investigated. Magnetocavitation model of this process is suggested. According to this model, the plasma ejection is produced because of the magnetospheric destruction associated with the processes of the neutron star quake, resonant interaction of magnetosphere with the accreted plasma and actions of ...

The interaction between the hypersonic plasma jet from the accreting neutron star and the ambient interstellar medium is studied. It is assumed that the jet is launched from the accretion disk via the open magnetic field anchored in the disk. The analytical investigation for the structure of the working surface of the jet is carried ...

In [Gusakov et al. Phys. Rev. Here, we apply it to calculate the instantaneous particle velocities and other parameters of interest, which are fixed by specifying the magnetic field configuration. Interestingly, we found ...

In the recent work by Gusakov, Kantor & Ofengeim [Phys. Rev. D 96, 103012 (2017)] a new method to calculate the quasistationary evolution of magnetic field in the core of a neutron star was proposed. Here we further develop it, focusing on a simple case of neutron-proton-electron (npe) core composition with purely poloidal magnetic field ...

About 1\% of them will ...

Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are the most luminous explosions in the Universe, yet the nature and physical properties of their energy sources are far from understood. Very important clues, however, can be inferred by studying the afterglows of these events.
