‘Balkan Hospitality Opens Doors: Studying Dialects on the Verge of Extinction
You cannot study spoken dialects from books. Instead, you need to go to a village, seek out its elders, and earn the trust of local residents before you can record hours of spontaneous stories. This is how Natalia Muravleva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, conducts her research. Her internship in Serbia continued her long-standing study of dialects spoken by Macedonian settlers. In this interview, she discusses how diaspora cultural centres help researchers reach informants, why native speakers need to be interviewed only in their own language (otherwise, as she puts it, they may 'break'), and how a single field season helped her finalise her monograph. She also shares warm memories of autumn in Belgrade and of colleagues with whom grammar can be discussed in three languages at once.

Scientists Train Neural Network to Generate Process Plans from 3D Models
Researchers at the HSE FCS AI and Digital Science Institute have developed CAD2TechSpec, a framework that converts 3D models of mechanical parts into machining process plans—step-by-step instructions for machine tools. The solution aims to reduce the time required for the design and preparation of technical process documentation in mechanical engineering, aircraft manufacturing, and other high-tech industries. The study findings have been published in PeerJ Computer Science.

Археологические культуры "варваров" Северного Причерноморья в III в. до н.э. - III в.н.э.: критика этнической объяснительной модели

Гл. 12. С. 93–98.
Mordvintseva V.

Conclusions about the cultural and historical processes in the barbarian world of the North Black Sea region of the Early Iron Age, which were made according to the archaeological material, add little new to the historical picture obtained from written and epigraphic sources. The universal model of permanent «Sarmaticization» of the regional Barbaricum, which still dominates in the archaeological works, contradicts both to the historical examples and the accumulated archaeological data-base on the background of the disclosure its information capacity through the development of new historical methods. The chosen methods of research until now were applied inconsistently, their logic was broken. It is necessary to radically rethink the existing scientific tradition in the ontological, epistemological and methodological respect, which requires a change in the approach and even style of scientific thinking.

The rock art of the Minusinsk Basin has a long academic history; however, it still brings about new fascinating discoveries. Some petroglyphs of the Tesin period show people sitting cross-legged on the floor in the so-called Oriental fashion. These images have not yet received special scientific attention. Such images are most often single; they are to be found ...

A comparative analysis of the remains of sacrificial animals found in the North Pontic region makes it possible to identify different local patterns in the cultic sphere, which can be preliminarily identified as representing ‘nomadic’ and ‘agricultural’ ideologies.
