HSE Scientists Train Neural Network to 'Hear' Faults in Electric Motors
Researchers at the AI and Digital Science Institute of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science have developed a new method—the Signature-Guided Data Augmentation (SGDA) framework—that achieves 99% accuracy in motor fault detection and 86% accuracy in fault classification. The application of this approach can reduce industrial equipment repair costs, minimise downtime, and improve production safety. The study results have been published in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence.

Is It Possible to Predict a Citys Life Based on the Shape of Its Neighbourhoods?
Is it possible to predict, based on the configuration of streets and buildings, where a café will open or where traffic congestion will occur? Participants in the Spatial Analysis and Modelling of Urban Processes research and study group use open data and machine learning to identify universal patterns. Alexander Sheludkov and Eduard Somov discuss the purpose of comparing cities, the need for new forms of urban statistics, and how open data is transforming approaches to urban studies.

С. 64–72.
Grebennikov A.

The article reconstructs the understanding of Kant’s political theory from the standpoint of neo-republicanism of P. Pettit. Based on selected texts, the field of historical philosophical analysis is created, which allows to develop an understanding of the significance of Kant’s heritage for contemporary normative theory. The grounds are traced for Pettit’s distinction of the Italian-Atlantic and Franco-German types of republicanism. Kant’s texts are analyzed on three points: an understanding of the freedom, government and contestability of politics. It becomes possible to compare Pettit’s theses and relevant fragments of Kant’s works. As a result, the rejection of the idea of mixed constitution in favor of a representative sovereign and the narrowing of the possibilities of contesting politics are recognized as fundamental features of Kant’s Franco-German republicanism highlighted by Pettit. In addition, the analysis of the polemical thesis of R. Forst about the need to consider justice as a constitutive political category through the perspective of Kantian understanding of autonomous will is involved. A joint examination of the texts of Kant, Boden, Hobbes and Rousseau, on the one hand, and a comparison of Forst’s thesis with the concept of orthonomy of Pettit and Smith, on the other, are indicated as possible ways to further elaboration of the question of Kant’s significance for modern republicanism and political theory as a whole.

In his essay "On Photography," the prominent German media theorist Vilém Flusser (1920-1991) asks whether human freedom is possible in the information society, in a world dominated by cameras, where our thoughts, feelings, desires, and actions are robotized.
