HSE Researchers Show How Congenital Motor Disorders Affect Brain Development
Researchers from HSE University’s Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience have synthesised the findings of their previous studies on brain development in children with obstetric brachial plexus palsy and arthrogryposis. Their analysis shows that impaired motor function in early childhood not only limits children’s motor experience but also affects memory, categorical thinking, and information processing. The study has been published in Frontiers in Psychology.

Window into the Body: Scientists Develop Neural Network to Detect Risk of 15 Diseases from Retinal Images
Russian universities, with the participation of HSE University, Sber, and Z-union, have developed a neural network that can simultaneously assess the risk of 15 types of pathology from retinal photographs, including not only eye diseases but also cardiovascular conditions. The AI system can help clinicians detect potentially concerning changes at an early stage, identify signs reflecting the condition of retinal blood vessels, and determine whether a patient may need further examination. The paper has been published in Frontiers in Medicine.

'We Did Not Limit the Time for Questions'
The International Laboratory for Supercomputer Atomistic Modelling and Multi-Scale Analysis at HSE University held a major conference on molecular dynamics. Participants had the opportunity to attend all the presentations, while speakers were given as much time as they needed to answer questions. The HSE News Service interviewed Grigory Smirnov, Head of the Laboratory, and Genri Norman, Chief Research Fellow, about the conference preparations and the discussions it generated.

Tolstikov S., Mullahmetov I., Pozhidaev E. et al., Технологии электромагнитной совместимости 2024 № 1(88) С. 62–71
The study involves the computational modeling of electrostatic discharge initiation in polymer materials utilized in space environment under low-temperature conditions. To address this challenge, experimental data on the radiation-induced electrical conductivity of polyimide and polyethylene terephthalate at reduced temperatures, have been employed. The simulation encompasses the evaluation of electric field intensity within polyimide and polyethylene ...

Hybrid silicon nitride photonic integrated circuits covered by single-walled carbon nanotube Films
Komrakova S., An P., Kovalyuk V. et al., Nanomaterials 2023 Vol. 13 No. 16 Article 2307
The integration of low-dimensional materials with optical waveguides presents promising opportunities for enhancing light manipulation in passive photonic circuits. In this study, we investigate the potential of aerosol-synthesized single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) films for silicon nitride photonic circuits as a basis for developing integrated optics devices. Specifically, by measuring the optical response of SWCNT-covered waveguides, ...

JFET and MOSFET SPICE Models in a Wide Temperature Range
Ismail-zade M. R., Russian Microelectronics 2021 Vol. 50 No. 7 P. 486–490
The schematic design of electronic devices for harsh environments requires SPICE models of electronic components that take into account the influence of ultralow and ultrahigh ambient temperatures. However, the standard SPICE models of components in commercial versions of SPICE-like simulators provide sufficient accuracy in a limited temperature range (–60 to 150°С) and cannot be used ...

Pulsed terahertz radiation from a double-barrier resonant tunneling diode biased into self-oscillation regime
Rasulova G. K., Pentin I. V., Vakhtomin Y. B. et al., Journal of Applied Physics 2020 Vol. 128 No. 22 Article 224303
The study of the bolometer response to terahertz (THz) radiation from a double-barrier resonant tunneling diode (RTD) biased into the negative differential conductivity region of the I–V characteristic revealed that the RTD emits two pulses in a period of intrinsic self-oscillations of current. The bolometer pulse repetition rate is a multiple of the fundamental frequency ...

Тепловой приемник для измерения параметров излучения импульсных лазеров и генераторов субмиллиметрового и миллиметрового диапазонов
Kik M. A., Sigov A. S., Shilyaev A. A. et al., Квантовая электроника 2020 Т. 50 № 11 С. 1034–1035
A theoretical formula is derived that makes it possible to establish a relationship between the speed and sensitivity of bolometers with geometric and thermophysical parameters of the receiving element and substrate. The result is confirmed by a preliminary (evaluation) experiment. The proposed thermal detectors can record and measure the radiation power of lasers and generators ...

Кик М. А., Golokolenov I., Сигов, А. С. et al., Российский технологический журнал 2019 Т. 7 № 6 С. 105–121
The paper presents the generalized results of the authors’ work on the study of thin films of semimetals, which can be used in the development of universal electromagnetic radiation receivers. It is shown that thin-film materials based on semimetals have high thermal sensitivity, low intrinsic noise and an increased absorption coefficient of radiation in the ...

Кик М. А., Богомолов Г. Д., Сигов, А. С. et al., Российский технологический журнал 2019 Т. 7 № 6 С. 122–133
Prospects of developing multi-element receivers for the submillimeter range (SMM) on the basis of thin-film semimetallic sensitive bolometers are considered. Electromagnetic waves of the SMM band have a high penetrating power and allow developing a thermal imager for the detection and observation of objects through various materials: fabrics, cardboard, wood, etc. The previously obtained research ...

Solvation and sodium conductivity of nonaqueous polymer electrolytes based on Nafion-117 membranes and polar aprotic solvents
Voropaeva D. Y., Novikova S. A., Kulova T. L. et al., Solid State Ionics 2018 Vol. 324 P. 28–32
Nafion-117 membranes in the Na+-forms with pore-intercalated mixtures of aprotic organic solvents have been obtained. Dependences of solvent uptake of the membranes versustheir pretreatment conditions and compositions of initial organic solvent mixtures are described. Ionic conductivity of the obtained membranes in the temperature range −20–50 °С is investigated using impedance spectroscopy. It is demonstrated that ionic conductivity increases with increasing solvent uptake. The highest conductivities at ...

Определение параметров SPICE-моделей МОПТ при низких температурах (до минус 200°C)
Kharitonov I. A., Четвериков И. А., Кузин Е. Ю. et al., Труды НИИСИ РАН 2017 Т. 7 № 2 С. 41–45
It is shown that BSIM3 standard MOSFET SPICE model does not provide more abrupt MOSFET transconductance dependence on gate voltage at low temperature (up to –200°C) caused by mobility increase. Enhanced MOSFET macro model for low temperature is proposed which accounts for more abrupt MOSFET transconductance dependence on gate voltage. Additional nonlinear voltage-controlled voltage source ...

Slow Electron - Phonon Cooling in Superconducting Diamond Films
Titova N., Kardakova A., Tovpeko N. et al., IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity 2016 Vol. 27 No. 4 P. 1–4
We have measured the electron-phonon energyrelaxation time, 𝝉𝒆𝒑𝒉, in superconducting boron-doped diamond films grown on silicon substrate by chemical vapour deposition. The observed electron-phonon cooling times vary from 160 ns at 2.70 K to 410 ns at 1.8 K following a 𝑻!𝟐-dependence. The data are consistent with the values of 𝝉𝒆𝒑𝒉 previously reported for single-crystal boron-doped ...

Various applications in the field of terahertz technology are in urgent need of compact, wide-tunable solid-state continuous wave radiation sources with a moderate power. However, satisfactory solutions for the THz frequency range are scarce yet.
