‘The Peak of Stupidity and ‘The Valley of Despair: HSE Economists Propose an Explanation for the Dunning–Kruger Effect
The Dunning–Kruger effect, which describes a sharp surge in self-confidence among beginners followed by an equally rapid decline as they gain experience, can be explained by the nature of the learning process and the acquisition of new knowledge. This conclusion was reached by Andrey Vorchik of the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences together with independent researcher Murat Mamyshev. They developed a mathematical model of learning and demonstrated how subjective confidence is formed and changes as knowledge accumulates, as well as how teachers can reduce the ‘valley of despair’ experienced by learners.

Влияние вариаций настроения и эмоциональных черт на восприятие эмоций по фотографиям лиц

С. 496–501.
Suchkova E.

The main goal of this study was to discover the relationship between mood variations, emotional traits and the perception of emotions in faces. The mood of the participant was measured using the SPANA method (Russian adaptation of PANAS), emotional traits were assessed with subjective well-being, trait anxiety and depression level questionnaires. To measure the perception of emotion efficiency, a facial morphing task was used. The task identified two thresholds: perceptual and conceptual. The sample included 51 participants aged 17 to 30 years. It was found that the accuracy of recognition depends on the appearing emotion. A negative correlation between the sadness scores of the SPANA and the conceptual threshold for surprise was found. A positive correlation between the level of trait anxiety and the conceptual threshold for sadness was also found. The results obtained in the study may indicate that there is a relationship between mood, emotional traits and the perception of emotions. The results of various studies are ambiguous and contradictory, and so to obtain a more accurate picture further studies should be conducted using the emotion induction method, in order to increase the variability of moods.

When teaching Japanese as a foreign language, it is customary to explain grammatical markers that convey the meanings of wish and invitation to joint action separately from each other. Facial obstructions and baseline correction shape affective computing’s detection of emotion–behavior relationships
Shepelenko A., Kosonogov V., Shestakova A., Frontiers in Psychology 2026 Vol. 17 Article 1713462
Introduction:  Affective computing (AC) is increasingly used to study emotional processes underlying decision-making, yet its methodological validity in capturing spontaneous emotional responses and their behavioral relevance remains debated. In particular, it is unclear how facial obstructions and baseline correction affect the accuracy of AC-based facial emotion measures in capturing emotion–behavior relationships. Methods:  The predictive validity of AC-based facial ...

Признаки и приемы, используемые для определения настроения собеседника при текстовой коммуникации в мессенджерах
Sysoeva T., Красницкая К. В., Психологические исследования: электронный научный журнал 2024 Т. 17 № 98 Статья 6
Instant messaging is becoming highly important in modern daily life. This type of communication differs significantly from face-to-face communication: non-verbal signals typically used to understand the interlocutor’s emotions (facial expressions, gestures, etc.) are inaccessible to observation, and the non-verbal signals that replace them in text messages are intentional. At the same time, recognition of other’s ...

Необходимость и достаточность отдельных черт лица для категоризации иллюстрированных эмоций удивления и страха
Rubtsova O., Gorbunova E. S.,

The temporal dynamic characteristics of mood play an important role in various aspects of our lives, including our psychological health and well-being. It is assumed that individuals with high emotional intelligence (EI) are characterized by more positive and stable moods. However, most studies analyze how EI is related to emotional traits or momentary assessments of mood, hence not ...
