«Мравалжамиер». Как Сталин и батумские рабочие праздновали Новый год (версии Берии, Булгакова и рабочих)
This article is dedicated to the fi rst version of Mikhail Bulgakov’s play Batum which was originally named Pastor in the manuscripts of 1938–1939. Special attention is paid to the New Year’s party on the eve of 1902, during which the Batum workers are pretending to celebrate but in fact are gathered to hear Stalin announce the establishment of a local committee of Russian Social Democratic Workers Party. Bulgakov based this episode on the extracts from the memoirs of Georgian workers published in 1937 in a book Batum demonstration of 1902 edited by Lavrenty Beria. Comparative analysis of Bulgakov’s texts and these extracts, sometimes included in the play almost unchanged, shows that the author wrote the whole scene by putting these pieces together. This episode was rewritten and cut much shorter in the fi nal version of the play.
