This article on the basic of the archival sources gives a review of the work of the NKVD’s filtration camps in the 1942 year. It examines the camp’s dislocation, the conditions of the material supply, the interaction with the defense ministry’s collective-transit stations. It reveals the interests of the departments, responsible for the camps, and its influence on the camp’s work. It shows how inside the NKVD was born the idea to use the camp’s contingents as a labor force. The author comes to the conclusion that the practices of 1942 year took shape mostly randomly under the influence of the external factors, but exactly these practices in the latter years become the key in the filtration camps work.
