On the basis of comparison of classification of historical sources, adopted in source studies, and systematization of publications according to GOST (SIBID) and identify contradictions between them, it is proposed to focus on two aspects of modern source studies: firstly, the influence of the factor of book printing on the entire system of historical sources of modern times and, accordingly, the need to take into account the original purpose of the historical source to the publication as its important immanent characteristic; secondly, the need to pay attention to the book as a valuable historical source not only in relation to the advantage of the manuscript book (which studies Codicology), but also to printed editions of modern times.
