Роль тариката Накшбандиййа в Менеменском инциденте 1930 года
The article addresses one of the tragic events of the Turkish history, namely the riot in the Menemen district, Izmir province, on December 23, 1930. A group of young fanatics inspired by radical religious leaders of the Naqshbandi tariqa started a rebellion aimed at destruction of Republican form of government and re-establishing a sharia state and a sultanate. In response to the fanatics' revolts, the government had to resort to mass repressions against the Sufi brotherhoods across the country. The author of the article focuses on the religious component of these events and seeks to highlight the role of certain religious leaders in inciting the uprising as opposed to the conventional view of the Russian historical studies, their approach being mostly based on social and economic analysis.
