‘Hedgehog Versus ‘Relatives: Researchers Measure How the Brain Responds to Unexpected Words During Natural Speech
Russian neurophysiologists, including researchers from HSE University, have demonstrated the feasibility of using event-related fields (ERFs) to study brain activity during natural speech perception. The researchers showed that this approach can be applied not only to individual words but also to continuous speech. Their findings indicate that words whose meanings differ significantly from the preceding context require longer processing times. The study also reveals that the brain processes function words in two stages: first, it identifies their grammatical role and then uses this information to predict the next word. The study has been published in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience.

Scientists Develop Algorithm for More Reliable Processors in Data Centres
Researchers from HSE MIEM and Samara University have developed the LRF-3D algorithm to automatically bypass idle nodes in three-dimensional networks-on-chip. Thanks to its hierarchical architecture, the algorithm outperforms existing solutions in both speed and path accuracy, improving processor reliability for use in data centres, supercomputers, and AI computing. The source code and test results are publicly available.

Self-esteem and self-reported personality traits: When attitudes toward traits make a difference
Shchebetenko S., De Marchis G., / Series PsyArXiv "PsyArXiv". 2026.
Personality questionnaires do not directly record recurring conduct. Rather, they elicit task-bounded reports of personality attributions: how respondents characterise themselves using personality-descriptive content. From this perspective, established associations between self-esteem and self-reported personality may depend on the evaluative meaning attached to that content. We tested whether attitudes toward the Big Five traits moderated associations between self-esteem and corresponding personality reports ...

Lower resting-state EEG mean eigenvector centrality is associated with higher math anxiety
Pavlova A., Малых С. В., Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 2026 No. 20 Article 1843779
This study aimed to investigate resting-state neural correlates of math anxiety in high school students using a graph-theoretical approach. Sixty 10th-grade students (35 females; mean age = 16.15 years) participated in the study. Resting-state EEG data were acquired using a 32-channel wireless dry-sensor system (Cognionics Quick-32 series). Math anxiety was assessed using the Abbreviated Math Anxiety Scale. Mean ...

It is generally accepted that the basis of social and legal stability in any society is a consensus on vir tue — the fundamental values of proper behavior, ways of maintaining and reproducing them. And, conversely, the destruction of this consensus is a sign of the loss of stability and divergence of positions of social ...

Hypergraphs from multivariate connectivity: caCOH-based EEG/MEG representation
Vlasenko D., Saranskaia I., Zakharov D., European Physical Journal: Special Topics 2026 P. 1–16
Hypergraphs provide a natural framework for representing neurophysiological interactions distributed across sets of sensors. A key methodological question is how hyperedges should be defined from frequency-resolved electroencephalography/magnetoencephalography (EEG/MEG) data. We demonstrate a construction strategy in which hyperedges are obtained from canonical coherence (caCOH), an extension of coherence that estimates coupling between multidimensional signal spaces. To ...

Functional Brain Connectivity and Musical Training: Insights from EEG Phase Synchronization during Music Perception
A. Radygina, S. Kulikova, Herald of the Russian Academy of Sciences 2025 Vol. 95 No. 6 P. 963–970
Musical training has a significant impact on brain organization, leading to functional and structural adaptations that enhance auditory, visual, motor, and cognitive processes. This study investigates how extensive musical training shapes functional brain connectivity by comparing professional musicians and non-musicians. Using EEG phase-locking value (PLV) analysis, we examined neural synchronization across alpha, beta, and gamma frequency ranges during music ...

Reznichenko S. I., Кияненко И. К., Nartova-Bochaver S. K. et al., Экспериментальная психология 2026 Т. 19 № 2 С. 10–28
Abstract Context and relevance. In the context of accelerated urbanization and a growing disconnect from the natural environment, there is increasing interest in biophilic attitudes — a system of stable views, beliefs, and evaluations that reflect a person’s relationship with living nature and shape their psychological well-being and environmentally responsible behavior. Existing tools for their measurement, such as the ...

Anufrieva A., Беляева Э.
Background. Knowledge about how to interact with an object can influence the speed of its identification and categorization. This phenomenon is known as the compatibility effect (CE). Despite extensive research, views on the underlying mechanisms of CE remain inconsistent. A key research question concerns the specific object features that can activate a motor programme, as well ...

Anufrieva A., Gorbunova E. S.,
The compatibility effect (CE) is the acceleration of a report when the motor programme and object affodance match. The present study was aimed at elucidating the mechanisms of the CE within the framework of the classical visual search methodology. Previous studies in this area had a number of shortcomings: the activation of the motor programme ...

The problem of time perception in psychology and cognitive science has occupied the minds of scientists since the beginning of the last century. At first, the perception of time was considered primarily as a physiological process caused by metabolism and the work of the so-called "biological clock". In the future, however, the focus of consideration ...

Anufrieva A., Gorbunova E. S.,
