‘Balkan Hospitality Opens Doors: Studying Dialects on the Verge of Extinction
You cannot study spoken dialects from books. Instead, you need to go to a village, seek out its elders, and earn the trust of local residents before you can record hours of spontaneous stories. This is how Natalia Muravleva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities, conducts her research. Her internship in Serbia continued her long-standing study of dialects spoken by Macedonian settlers. In this interview, she discusses how diaspora cultural centres help researchers reach informants, why native speakers need to be interviewed only in their own language (otherwise, as she puts it, they may 'break'), and how a single field season helped her finalise her monograph. She also shares warm memories of autumn in Belgrade and of colleagues with whom grammar can be discussed in three languages at once.

Scientists Train Neural Network to Generate Process Plans from 3D Models
Researchers at the HSE FCS AI and Digital Science Institute have developed CAD2TechSpec, a framework that converts 3D models of mechanical parts into machining process plans—step-by-step instructions for machine tools. The solution aims to reduce the time required for the design and preparation of technical process documentation in mechanical engineering, aircraft manufacturing, and other high-tech industries. The study findings have been published in PeerJ Computer Science.

Sanctions and GVC resilience in developing countries: asymmetric shocks and adaptive responses
Fedyunina A., Drapkin I. M., Simachev Y. V., Area Development and Policy 2026
Trade sanctions generate asymmetric shocks in developing economies, reshaping their integration into global value chains (GVCs). Using a gravity framework covering 68 developing countries over the period 2000–2021, this paper examines how sanctions affect forward and backward GVC linkages. We find that sanctions significantly reduce both dimensions of GVC participation: backward linkages suffer deeper and ...

Elgar Concise Encyclopedia of Sports Law
Natalie St Cyr Clarke N., Serhat Yilmaz S., J. Mitten M. et al., Edward Elgar Publishing, 2025.
When you open a sports law book, particularly one involving academics, it is usual for it to begin by asking – does sports law exist? Not whether sports law is an area worthy of study, nor that sports lawyers provide services to and resolve disputes for the sports industry; no, the norm is to ask whether sports law exists at all. This existentialist ...

The purpose of this research is to determine the main variables which significantly impact the risk of default of ...

We explore the impact of institutional factors on bilateral migration among the EU, CIS, and the US by applying the gravity model of migration. We employ instrumental variables methodology (IV-PPML, IV-GMM) and a non-linear estimation approach (NLS) to test our assumptions about the spurring effect of institutional indicators on migration. Empirical results demonstrate a significantly ...

The profitability and sustainability of the bank in the long term is largely determined by the quality of its management. Recognition of the importance of this factor is, for example, its inclusion as one of the components in the CAMELS rating system, which has not lost its popularity so far. At the same time, a direct quantitative assessment ...
