Когнитивный контроль: новые мозговые механизмы, выявленные с помощью частотно-временного анализа электроэнцефалограммы при выполнении экспериментальной задачи с высокой нагрузкой на внимание
С. 393-397.
Cognitive control includes specific maintenance of sustained attention to a stimulus
and non-specific regulation of a motor threshold. Failures in each system lead to different
types of errors, associated with attentional lapses and uncertainty or dysfunction of
the motor threshold. Subsequent adaptive adjustments can be implemented through two
different mechanisms, depending on the type of error. Two experiments were conducted using
the auditory condensation task, which is highly demanding for sustained attention. We
analyzed EEG oscillations in theta, alpha and beta bands. The results indicate that adaptive
adjustments after errors are implemented by the frontal-medial network of task monitoring,
the parietal attentional network and the sensorimotor network. Moreover, we discovered
that response times may serve as an efficiency marker of each network, which allows us to
distinguish between two types of responses: fast responses with a high level of attention
and low level of uncertainty, and slow responses with a low level of attention and high level
of uncertainty. Jointly, the results of both experiments demonstrate that the condensation
task in an auditory modality is a new prospective method for investigating the brain mechanisms
of cognitive control.

Cognitive control includes maintenance of task-specific processes related to attention, and non-specific regulation of motor threshold. Generally, two different kinds of errors may occur, with some errors related to attentional lapses and decision uncertainty, and some errors – to failures of sustaining motor threshold. Error commission leads to adaptive adjustments in brain networks that subserve ...

Outcome of a behavioral response can be detected either internally at the time of the response commission, or externally through a feedback signal. In both cases, a number of brain networks that subserve cognitive control are recruited, all networks having certain distinctive signatures in electroencephalographic oscillations. Yet most studies in the field have several limitations. ...

Theta and alpha band modulations reflect error-related adjustments in the auditory condensation task
Nikita A. Novikov, Dmitri V. Bryzgalov, Boris V. Chernyshev, Frontiers in Human Neuroscience 2015 Vol. 9 No. 673 P. 1-13
Error commission leads to adaptive adjustments in a number of brain networks that subserve goal-directed behavior, resulting in either enhanced stimulus processing or increased motor threshold depending on the nature of errors committed. Here, we studied these adjustments by analyzing post-error modulations of alpha and theta band activity in the auditory version of the two-choice ...

Cognitive control includes maintenance of task-specific processes related to attention, and non-specific regulation of motor threshold. Depending upon the nature of the behavioral tasks, these mechanisms may predispose to different kinds of errors, with either increased or decreased response time of erroneous responses relative to correct responses. Specifically, slow responses are related to attentional lapses ...

Cognitive control is a set of processes that are responsible for flexible goal-directed behaviour. We did a series of electroencephalographic experiments during the auditory condensation task. The findings obtained allow distinguishing three brain networks that carry out adaptive processes after error commission. We also show that increased response time is associated with lower level of ...

Experiments involving participant’s response recording by way of pressing buttons
are quite common. This simple method allows estimation of such crucial parameters as response
time and response correctness. However, more detailed analysis of behavioral responses
is needed in some cases. Crucial aspects within the cognitive control research field
include the conflict before decision-making, error detection after response commission and
internal ...

In tasks involving response choice based on certain stimulus-to-response mappings, at least two stages of information processing may be involved: (1) formation of sensory stimulus object representations leading to stimulus identification, and (2) application of stimulus-to-response mappings (i.e. “task rules”) to these representations leading to response selection. Most of the research done in this area ...

Commission of error causes the adjustments in a number of brain systems related to goal-directed behavior. Errors may be caused by failures of motor inhibition or by general attentional lapses, which lead to the different neural adjustments with their specific electrophysiological and behavioral correlates (van Driel et al., 2012; Danielmeier and Ullsperger, 2011). Thus, post-error ...

Performance monitoring involves detection of action outcomes and initiation of appropriate behavioral adaptations. Psychophysiological mechanisms of performance monitoring remain largely understudied in the context of uncertainty that arises at the stage of stimulus identification and decision making, as well as in the context of inhibition/correction of the motor response. Attentional lapses are usually viewed as a result of deterioration in cognitive control. Current theories suggest that deterioration in the cognitive control may be related to an increase in alpha rhythm power, although it is not clear whether this notion can be generalized outside of the visual task modality. In the current study power of ...

Cognitive control includes two basic aspects: maintenance of task-specific processes (including attention), and non-specific control of the motor threshold. In line with this distinction, performance errors may be explained by two alternative mechanisms: fast errors are believed to result from inappropriate action impulses that were allowed due to a failure in keeping the motor threshold ...

Current understanding of feature binding remains controversial. Studies involving mismatch negativity (MMN) measurement show a low level of binding, whereas behavioral experiments suggest a higher level. One of the topics in current psycholinguistics research is studying the factors affecting syntactic choice in sentence production. Previous research suggests that syntactic choice results from an interplay between linguistic and non-linguistic factors, and a speaker’s attention to the elements of a described event represents one such factor. Observers are able to extract summary statistical properties, such as numerosity or the average, from spatially overlapping subsets of visuals objects. However, this ability is limited to about two subsets at a time, which may be primarily caused by the limited capacity of parallel representation of those subsets.
