С. 293–306.
This paper explores some of the current issues and challenges in teaching academic writing to Russian learners of English. The findings are drawn from an analysis of samples of scientific works (so-called project proposals) produced by 4th year students at the National Research University – Higher School of Economics and are supported with data from a survey on students’ needs in academic writing. The paper highlights some of the pitfalls of teaching how to write project proposals in the given context. It concludes with outlining some pedagogical considerations on how to address the issues discussed.
