The article is devoted to the development of Russian science literature, which is analyzed mainly on the material of studying of foreign literature in the second half of the XIX century and the first decades of the twentieth century. Normally, the presentation of "Neophilology" limit A.N. school Veselovsky - in this article we are talking about a more general context of the evolution of this field, including the development of the department of history of Western literature at the University of Kiev, Moscow, Kharkov, Kazan and Odessa. The main attention will be paid to research on the relationship of foreign literature and books on Russian and Ukrainian history in the legacy of Academician Imperial Academy of Sciences NP Dashkevich (professor at the University of St. Vladimir in Kiev). It is also considered the impact of the university on the development of comparative science of Russian literature in general
