In the present article, a subtype of readers' letters to Soviet newspapers in 1920ths is analyzed, namely, letters of recantation. This term is used for letters where the author announces his or her resignation from a non-Bolshevist political party. I show that the letters of recantation reflected some important features of the Soviet ideology.
