Doctoral Student at HSE University Reveals Hidden Layout of Ancient Parion
İdil Malgil, a researcher at HSE University, conducted a UAV-based LiDAR survey of the ancient Roman city of Parion in present-day Turkey. The high density of the scans allowed the team to detect subtle terrain features concealed beneath the ground and vegetation. The survey revealed traces of entire neighbourhoods, terraced structures, and walls that had remained invisible during routine excavations and could not be identified through aerial photography. The findings have been published in Ancient Civilizations from Scythia to Siberia.

Application of ML methods to predict residual stresses and strains after wire drawing process
Dmitriy Demin, Ilya Grebenkin, International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology 2024 Vol. 133 No. 7 P. 3461–3473
It is well known that residual stresses and accumulated deformations during drawing processes can influence mechanical properties of the resulting products. This paper proposes the use of machine learning methods, such as artificial neural networks (ANN) and polynomial regression, to gain insight into the nature of these distributions across the cross-section of round wires. The ...

The Effect of Material Properties on the Accuracy of Superplastic Tensile Test
Aksenov S. A., Mikolaenko V., Metals 2020 Vol. 10 No. 10 Article 1353
Tensile testing is widely used for the mechanical characterization of materials subjected to superplastic deformation. At the same time, it is known that the obtained flow data are affected by specimen geometry. Thus, they characterize the specimen rather than the material. This work provides the numerical analysis aimed to study how the material flow behavior ...

Electroencephalographic source reconstruction by the finite-element approximation of the elliptic Cauchy problem
Malovichko M., Koshev N., Yavich N. et al., IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering 2021 Vol. 68 No. 6 P. 1811–1819
Objective: This paper develops a novel approach for fast and reliable reconstruction of EEG sources in MRI-based head models. Methods: The inverse EEG problem is reduced to the Cauchy problem for an elliptic partial-derivative equation. The problem is transformed into a regularized minimax problem, which is directly approximated in a finite-element space. The resulting numerical method is efficient and easy ...
