AI Users Earn Up to 41.8% More Than Non-Users
Research conducted by economists at HSE University has revealed a significant correlation between the regular use of GenAI in the workplace and higher pay among Russian employees. The study found that individuals who frequently use GenAI in their professional activities earn notably more than those who reject these new tools or resort to them occasionally. The salary premium for highly qualified specialists reaches 41.8%. The article was published in the Voprosy Ekonomiki journal.

Personal Interest in Doctoral Thesis Topic Most Important for Confidence in Successful Defence
A researcher at HSE University analysed data on 1,539 doctoral students from 161 Russian universities to identify which features of a thesis topic are associated with academic success and engagement. The most important factor was found to be personal interest in the research topic, which was associated with almost all key aspects of doctoral programme experience—from engaging with the academic supervisor to research activity and confidence about successfully defending the thesis. The findings have been published in Higher Education.

The role of hydrogen in energy supply for isolated and arctic territories

International Journal of Hydrogen Energy. 2026. Vol. 242. P. 1–11.
Marin G., Zvereva E., Ilyushin P., Akhmetshin A., Novoselova M.

In the modern world, one of the central challenges is to create a reliable and sust-ainable energy system capable of meeting the needs of remote and hard-to-reach regions. Russia is distinguished by vast territories with harsh climatic conditions - such as the Arctic and other northern regions -where ensuring a steady supply of energy resources becomes a complex task. Until recently, remote regions relied exclusively on traditional fossil fuels— oil, gas, and coal - which are often transported over long distances.

The high cost of transportation and the negative environmental impact have raised the need to seek alternative solutions. This article addresses the pressing issue of energy supply for remote and Arctic territories, which have traditionally depended on expensive imported fuel to operate their energy infrastructure. The study explores the possibility of transitioning to local intelligent energy systems that operate autonomously. The aim of the research is to assess the role of hydrogen as a key element for stabilizing and storing energy in conditions of stochastic output of renewable energy sources (RES).

The article analyzes the operational characteristics of solar and wind power plants under conditions of stochastic electricity generation. Despite the high wind potential of the Arctic region (average wind speeds exceed the minimum permissible threshold of 5-6 m/s) and the presence of solar insolation, their instability and intermittency necessitate the development of energy stabilization and storage systems. To assess wind energy potential, static methods are employed, particularly the two-parameter Weibull distribution. This method allows forecasting the power output of wind turbines and determining the specific power of the wind flow. The article examines two concepts for developing a local intelligent energy system based on hydrogen fuel using the Power-to-Gas (P2G) principle. Hydrogen fuel produced via electrolysis using electricity from renewable energy sources (RES) serves as a universal energy carrier. To assess the efficiency of a local intelligent energy system (LIES), the article provides a comparative analysis of electrolysis technologies, highlighting their advantages and applicability. Two fundamental operational schemes of the LIES are investigated using mathematical modelling.

Hossain M. R., Dogan B., Tiwari A. K. et al., Energy Economics 2026 Vol. 157 P. 1–30
Financial resource diversification is a panacea to inhibit portfolio risks and ensure societal upliftment. Financial technologies (Fintech) and eco-friendly bonds can reshape this diversification process, enabling investors to invest in multiple sectors effectively. However, the empirical narrative on how Fintech and eco-friendly bonds can elevate the potential of sectoral equity markets to attract investors is ...

Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is reshaping work, yet evidence on labor market adjustment remains concentrated in Western economies and studies of global freelance platforms conducted under comparatively stable access to frontier tools. Whether disruption patterns associated with task exposure also appear under more constrained diffusion remains unclear. We examine the Russian freelance economy using transaction-level ...

Government Ideology and Bailout Conditionality in the European Financial Crisis
Hermida Rivera H., Genovese F., International Interactions 2022 Vol. 48 No. 5 P. 897–935
The political economy literature on international bailouts has repeatedly shown that the domestic politics of rescued countries influence international bailout compliance. However, we know less about the domestic politics of bailout negotiations, and especially the type of conditions negotiated by governments of more developed countries with strong ties to international lenders. This paper puts forward ...

Binary Self-Selective Voting Rules
Hermida Rivera H., Kerman T., Journal of Public Economic Theory 2025 Vol. 27 No. 3 P. 1–7
This paper introduces a novel binary stability property for voting rules—called binary self-selectivity—by which a society considering whether to replace its voting rule using itself in pairwise elections will choose not to do so. In Theorem 1, we show that a neutral voting rule is binary self-selective if and only if it is universally self-selective. ...

To do so, I first let players' preference profiles over voting rules satisfy four natural axioms commonly used in the analysis of power: non-dominance, anonymity, null player, and swing player. ...
