Метамодернизм как феномен культурного «пограничья»
The chapter is devoted to the study of the functioning of metamodernism in modern culture. At the end of the 20th century, there was a crisis of postmodernism, many researchers noted that with the help of postmodernism markers it is no longer possible to explain the functioning of certain phenomena that arose in modern culture. Metamodernism is a concept that was proposed by Dutch researchers in 2010, where oscillation (being between two opposite poles) and the sensory perception of reality by the author (artist) are put in the fi rst place. The article proposes to look at the phenomenon of metamodernism through the concept of cultural frontier (from the point of view of the concept of the semiosphere by Yu. M. Lotman). It seems that metamodernism arises in the peripheral areas of culture (semiosphere), touching and including such phenomena as post-truth, new sincerity, neo-romantic sensuality. At the same time, metamodernism does not reject the trends inherent in the previous chronotypological stages: postmodernism, modernism, etc., constantly oscillating between them, metamodernism absorbs “foreign” languages of culture and art into its new structure, and at the same time, preserves the memory of a diff erent system of narration and representation of reality. Using the examples of paintings by Russian contemporary artists — Olga Molchanova-Permyakova (Perm), Alexandra Efi mova (Bryansk, St. Petersburg), it is considered how markers of metamodernism function in fi ne art. It is concluded that the markers of metamodernism, which were initially identifi ed as independent phenomena (for example, new sincerity and post-truth) arise in peripheral areas of culture. In modern art, it is observed that the artist tries to represent reality through an appeal to the sensory perception of the world, to the individual and collective unconscious (through images, an appeal to archetypes and surreal plots, etc.), and not through an appeal to deconstruction and endless quoting, to ridicule previous narratives.
