Scientists Develop Algorithm for More Reliable Processors in Data Centres
Researchers from HSE MIEM and Samara University have developed the LRF-3D algorithm to automatically bypass idle nodes in three-dimensional networks-on-chip. Thanks to its hierarchical architecture, the algorithm outperforms existing solutions in both speed and path accuracy, improving processor reliability for use in data centres, supercomputers, and AI computing. The source code and test results are publicly available.

Researchers Develop Method for Direct Generation of Regulatory DNA
Researchers at HSE University have developed a model for generating promoters and enhancers—DNA sequences that regulate gene activity. The model works directly with DNA nucleotides, without first transforming them into a continuous numerical representation. This solution could be useful for applications in synthetic biology and gene therapy. The study results were presented at the ICLR 2026 Workshop ‘Generative AI in Genomics (Gen^2): Barriers and Frontiers.’

Social Integration: At the Crossroads of Knowledge and Values
The International Laboratory for Social Integration Research (ILSIR) at HSE University studies the challenges faced by vulnerable groups and explores ways to help them participate fully in everyday life. To develop effective solutions, the laboratory’s researchers combine cutting-edge methods with practical fieldwork. In this interview with the HSE News Service, Laboratory Head Elena Iarskaia-Smirnova discusses the laboratory’s work.

Исследование мелкомасштабной структуры поляризационного джета во время геомагнитной бури 20 апреля 2018 г

In this work, we study the small-scale structure of a polarization jet in the subauroral region during the April 20, 2018 geomagnetic storm. We report measurement results of plasma parameters inside the polarization jet with a maximum sampling rate of up to 1 kHz, obtained with Langmuir probes installed on the NorSat-1 microsatellite. The study establishes the presence of temperature and electron density inhomogenei-ties inside the polarization jet with spatial dimensions of tens to hundreds of meters. The previously known features of the polarization jet evolution have been confirmed. We have also found that the distribution of the electron temperature inside the jet forms two separate peaks as the geomagnetic activity develops during the storm.

Chernyshov A., Padokhin A. M., Grach S. M. et al., Geophysical Research Letters 2026 Vol. 53 P. 1–11
This paper presents the first results of a coordinated experiment on the ionospheric plasma response to high-frequency (HF) overdense heating, conducted using the SURA heating facility and the Ionosfera-M satellite. The experiment combined ground-based observations with in situ satellite measurements, enabling a comprehensive study of artificial ionospheric disturbances. During the experiment, the SURA facility transmitted ...

Effects in the upper atmosphere and ionosphere in the subauroral region during Victory Day 2024 Geomagnetic Storm (May 10–12, 2024)
Chernyshov A., Klimenko M. V., Nosikov I. A. et al., Advances in Space Research 2026 Vol. 76 No. 12 P. 7325–7350
This study provides a detailed analysis of the impact of the magnetic storm (referred to as the Victory Day Storm, as the solar flares occurred on May 8–9, 2024), which took place from May 10 to 12, 2024, and has become the most significant geomagnetic event of the 21st century to date, on the subauroral and mid-latitude ...

Strong turbulent flow in the subauroral region in the Antarctic can deteriorate satellite-based navigation signals
Kotova D. S., Sinevich A., Chernyshov A. et al., Scientific Reports 2025 Vol. 15 No. 3458
In the subauroral zone at the boundary of the auroral oval in the evening and night hours during geomagnetic disturbances, a narrow (about 1°–2°) and extended structure (several hours in longitude) is formed. It is known as a polarization jet (PJ) or the subauroral ion drift (SAID). The PJ/SAID is a fast westward ion drift ...

Multi-Instrument Approach to Study Polarization Jet/SAID and STEVE
A. A. Sinevich, A. A. Chernyshov, Chugunin D. V. et al., JOURNAL OF GEOPHYSICAL RESEARCH-SPACE PHYSICS 2024 Vol. 129 No. 11 Article e2024JA033222
In this study, we employ a unique multi‐instrumental approach for a comprehensive examination of Polarization Jet (PJ) (or, another name, Subauroral Ion Drift (SAID)). A diverse set of data is used to assess the connection between the appearance of the inhomogeneous structure of PJ/SAID and its reflection in groundbased observations during geomagnetic activity. Our approach ...

Поляризационный джет и плазменные неоднородности различного масштаба
Sinevich A., Chernyshov A., Чугунин Д. В. et al., Известия РАН. Серия физическая 2024 Т. 88 № 3 С. 438–444
Results are presented from a study of the internal small-scale structure of the polarization jet/SAID using data from different satellites. The minimum size of irregularities and the typical internal composition of a stratified subauroral ion drift (SSAID) are confirmed. A two-peak structure is found that contains two large strata of the polarization jet/SAID. A shift ...

Sinevich A., Chernyshov A., Чугунин Д. В. et al., Геомагнетизм и аэрономия 2023 Т. 63 № 6 С. 764–774
The results of a study of the small-scale internal structure of a polarization jet/SAID (Subauroral Ion Drift) based on satellite data using the wavelet transform of ionospheric plasma parameters are presented. The minimum sizes of small-scale temperature and electron density irregularities are determined. Most likely, any polarization jet/SAID is stratified, as follows from the sample ...

In this work, we study the spatial structure of the polarization jet based on data from the NorSat-1 and Swarm ionospheric satellites during a geomagnetic storm. A comparative analysis of the electron density and temperature dependence on the invariant latitude is carried out simultaneously according to measurements of the NorSat-1 and Swarm C satellites during ...

The electromagnetic fields measured on the ERG satellite are presented and their comparative analysis with measurements on the WIND satellite is carried out. The possibility of capturing auroral kilometric radiation (AKR) into plasma channels, which was first discovered on the ISEE satellite, has been confirmed. Plasma inhomogeneities, formed with an increase in geomagnetic activity, are ...
