The article examines challenges to the development of small and medium enterprises in contemporary Russia, i.e. the spread of the new coronavirus infection and introduction of a record number of Western sanctions. Special attention is paid to the analysis of the effectiveness of the sets of state support measures implemented by the Government of the Russian Federation. Further vectors for the development of the small and medium-sized business sector until 2030 are described.
