СТРАТЕГИЯ ИМЯНАРЕЧЕНИЯ У БАГРАТИДОВ (ДО XIII В.)

The article is dedicated to the strategy of name-giving by Armenian and Georgian Bagratids up to the thirteenth century. The analysis shows that the sons (especially elder sons) received the name of a closer elder relative (grandfather or uncle), mostly a dead one, which places this practice close to the process of name-giving among the Rurikids, but not to that of Byzantine noble families. We as well nd the case of name-giving aer living mighty uncles as a search for the patronage. Also important is the adoption of names from other families as a policy of patronage and alliance.
