Physicists Discover What Happens Inside a Stable Vortex
Large vortices with characteristic spiral arms are often observed in the atmosphere and the ocean. Physicists from HSE University have explained how these structures form and why they retain their shape. The researchers found that velocities at points located along the same vortex arc remain correlated even over long distances. At the same time, this correlation weakens rapidly with increasing distance from the vortex centre. These differences help explain the formation of spiral arms and may improve models of atmospheric and oceanic currents. The findings have been published in Physical Review Fluids.

Всплеск рынка солнечных накопителей в США

США и Канада: экономика, политика, культура. 2026. № 6. С. 83–98.
Gazman V. D.

The article presents the results of the author's analysis of the reasons for the ultra-rapid growth of solar electricity production by large-scale generators (Utility Scale) during the 2020s. Data from 39 stations with a capacity exceeding 100 MW and holding more than 60% of the capacity of electricity storage systems in the United States have been identified, systematized, and quantified. The solar storage market boom for energy storage systems is driven by the economic incentive for investment in the industry and the introduction of 4-hour energy storage systems. As a result, the capacity utilization rate (Capacity Factor) has increased from 30% to 44%. This allows solar energy to outperform many other forms of generation, including coal, and to come closer to its main competitor, natural gas. Using his own methodology, the author has determined how CO2 emissions are reduced in hybrid power plants with energy storage systems. The results show that over the course of a year, emissions were reduced by more than 25.6 million tons of CO2, which resulted in the saving of 4934 lives and an economic impact of over $59 billion.

Which Model Families Pay? Econometric, Gradient Boosting and Recurrent Neural Network Volatility Forecasts in Active Trading Strategies on the Russian Stock Market
Lysenok N., International Journal of Computer Information Systems and Industrial Management Applications 2026 Vol. 18 No. 17s P. 533–549
This paper asks which families of volatility forecasting models create economic value in active trading, and through which integration channel that value is transmitted. Seven models drawn from four families — econometric (GJR-GARCH, HAR-J), gradient boosting (XGBoost, LightGBM), recurrent neural networks (LSTM, GRU) and a hybrid combining HAR-J with boosting — are compared on the ...

Вознаграждается ли использование технологий генеративного ИИ на российском рынке труда?
Rozhkova K., Roshchin S., Roshchina Y.,

Sanctions and GVC resilience in developing countries: asymmetric shocks and adaptive responses
Fedyunina A., Drapkin I. M., Simachev Y. V., Area Development and Policy 2026
Trade sanctions generate asymmetric shocks in developing economies, reshaping their integration into global value chains (GVCs). Using a gravity framework covering 68 developing countries over the period 2000–2021, this paper examines how sanctions affect forward and backward GVC linkages. We find that sanctions significantly reduce both dimensions of GVC participation: backward linkages suffer deeper and ...
