Scientists Create Open Dataset for Studying Concentration
A team of Russian researchers, including scientists from HSE University–St Petersburg, has developed the first open multimodal dataset containing recordings of brain activity, heart function, and video observations to help researchers understand what happens in the human brain during deep concentration. In the future, the dataset could accelerate the development of neural interfaces, rehabilitation technologies, and AI systems. The article has been published in Scientific Data.

‘Science Is Universal-It Knows No Borders
Fuad Aleskerov, Tenured Professor and Director of the International Centre of Decision Choice and Analysis at HSE University, together with his colleagues, has developed methods of network analysis in bibliometrics that have made it possible to identify patterns in the appearance and citation of publications in academic journals, as well as their influence on each other. When one or a number of studies are frequently cited by a wide range of journals, this is an indicator that the research is of high quality. By contrast, extensive cross-citation within a limited group of journals increases the likelihood of identifying a network of predatory publications.

Scientists Propose Method for More Efficient Resource Use in Machine Learning
An international group of researchers, including mathematicians from the AI and Digital Science Institute at the HSE Faculty of Computer Science, has provided a theoretical justification for a simple and computationally efficient method of estimating uncertainty in Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD). The paper has been published on the scientific preprint server arXiv.org and presented at AISTATS 2026.

RussianSuperGLUE: A Russian Language Understanding Evaluation Benchmark

P. 4717–4726.
Shavrina T., Fenogenova A., Emelyanov A., Shevelev D., Artemova E., Malykh V., Mikhailov V., Tikhonova M., Chertok A., Evlampiev A.

In this paper, we introduce an advanced Russian general language understanding evaluation benchmark – RussianSuperGLUE. Recent advances in the field of universal language models and transformers require the development of a methodology for their broad diagnostics and testing for general intellectual skills - detection of natural language inference, commonsense reasoning, ability to perform simple logical operations regardless of text subject or lexicon. For the first time, a benchmark of nine tasks, collected and organized analogically to the SuperGLUE methodology, was developed from scratch for the Russian language. We also provide baselines, human level evaluation, open-source framework for evaluating models, and an overall leaderboard of transformer models for the Russian language. Besides, we present the first results of comparing multilingual models in the translated diagnostic test set and offer the first steps to further expanding or assessing State-of-the-art models independently of language.

Local Fault-Tolerant Routing in 3D Mesh NoCs using Single-Hop Rollback
Edward R. Rzaev, Aleksandr Y. Romanov, Andrey M. Sukhov, IEEE Access 2026
This work presents a hierarchy of strictly local fault-tolerant routing algorithms for 3D mesh networks-on-chip, culminating in an algorithm that combines a live-neighbor selection rule with a bounded single-hop rollback mechanism. The proposed algorithms operate exclusively on immediate neighbor information, maintain O(1) per hop complexity, and require no global topology knowledge, additional virtual channels, or ...

A family of pretrained transformer language models for Russian
Zmitrovich D., Abramov A., Kalmykov A. et al., , in: Proceedings of the 2024 Joint International Conference on Computational Linguistics, Language Resources and Evaluation (LREC-COLING 2024).: ELRA and ICCL, 2024.
Transformer language models (LMs) are fundamental to NLP research methodologies and applications in various languages. However, developing such models specifically for the Russian language has received little attention. This paper introduces a collection of 13 Russian Transformer LMs, which spans encoder (ruBERT, ruRoBERTa, ruELECTRA), decoder (ruGPT-3), and encoder-decoder (ruT5, FRED-T5) architectures. We provide a report ...

Visual Question Answering is one of the essential parts of machine reasoning. Datasets are created to train a model to perform this task. However, there are only a few datasets for the Russian language. Moreover, existing sets may have strong biases, allowing models to score high without reasoning. In this paper, we adapt the idea ...

Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) are currently at the center of research attention, showing rapid progress in scale and capabilities, yet their intelligence, limitations, and risks remain insufficiently understood. To address these issues, particularly in the context of the Russian language, where no multimodal benchmarks currently exist, we introduce MERA Multi, an open multimodal evaluation ...

This paper introduces DRAGOn, method to design a RAG benchmark on a regularly updated corpus. It features recent reference datasets, a question generation framework, an automatic evaluation pipeline, and a public leaderboard. Specified reference datasets allow for uniform comparison of RAG systems, while newly generated dataset versions mitigate data leakage and ensure that all models ...

Text embeddings are typically evaluated on a limited set of tasks, which are constrained by language, domain, and task diversity. To address these limitations and provide a more comprehensive evaluation, we introduce the Massive Multilingual Text Embedding Benchmark (MMTEB) - a large-scale, community-driven expansion of MTEB, covering over 500 quality-controlled evaluation tasks across 250+ languages. ...

Karpukhin I., Shipilov F., Savchenko A., Neurocomputing 2026 Vol. 672 Article 132771
Forecasting multiple future events within a given time horizon is essential for applications in finance, retail, social networks, and healthcare. This problem is typically addressed using Marked Temporal Point Processes (MTPP), which provide a principled framework for modeling both event timing and event labels. While most existing research focuses on predicting only the next event, forecasting distant future ...

The success of clinical trials of longevity drugs relies heavily on identifying integrative health and aging biomarkers, such as biological age. Epigenetic aging clocks predict the biological age of individuals using their DNA methylation profiles, commonly retrieved from blood samples. However, there is no standardized methodology to validate and compare epigenetic clock models. We propose ComputAgeBench, ...
