Между дилетантизмом и диссидентством: переводы рассказов Бориса Виана в «Митином журнале»
Новое литературное обозрение. 2026. № 2 (198). С. 225–237.
The article focuses on the study of unofficial translations from French, specifically the translation of Boris Vian’s short stories, published in «Mitin Journal». By examining the features of these translations, we can better understand the role of language in samizdat and rethink the position of the unofficial translator, who is opposed to the official translator and educator. This intervention creates an alternative image of foreign literature within the Soviet context. Through alternative translation strategies such as translationcommentary, translation-game, and translation-subscript, the samizdat translator seeks to update the Russian language and develop a new literary idiom.

The article analyzes Vyacheslav Ivanov’s concept of humanism by juxtaposing two texts on the subject — “Cliffs: On the Crisis of Humanism” (1919) and the letter to Alessandro Pellegrini concerning “Docta Pietas” (1934) — to show the shift from an early, predominantly critical stance toward a later, reinterpretive, Christ-centred rehabilitation of the concept. It raises ...

The connection of the poetic form with the content is investigated. The free verse, developed by W. Whitman in the second half of the 19th century, took root in the USSR with difficulty. In modern Russian poetry, the free verse, while preserving the aura of Western poetic culture, often combines gender and political meanings, broadcasting ...

Unlike many other Turkic languages, Balkar normally demonstrates obligatory subject-verb
number agreement in finite clauses with 3rd person subjects: when a subject is plural-marked,
so is the verb. However, there are cases when the subject is not overtly plural-marked, but the
verb can be. We argue for an account where such facts are not reduced to any form ...

The article examines Old Russian anthroponyms with the suffix -ec-, originally conveying the meaning ‘less than X’. A diachronic corpus study of
11th–17th-century texts reveals that while this suffix lacked inherent pejorative
connotations in Old Russian sources, contextual (adherent) pejoration is clearly
observable. For pre-15th-century chronicles, two primary usage patterns are
identified—1) characters with explicit negative evaluation, and 2) ...
