The majority of studies dedicated to philology in the oeuvre of Olga Sedakova concentrate on her prose texts. This article seeks to examine the relationship between the author’s engagement with literary studies and her poetic texts. The focus of the study is Sedakova’s poetic cycle, ‘Azarovka’, which provides an illustrative example of the interconnection between philology and poetry. The present study draws parallels between Sedakova’s research papers and selected poems, demonstrating how a specific idea or ‘verbal task’ is performed in two distinct roles: that of the philologist and that of the poet. Particular attention is paid to how Sedakova’s reflections on the poetry of N. Zabolotsky and B. Pasternak, as presented in her philological works, are refracted in the poetic cycle. As a result, it is shown that the author’s philological ideas not only receive theoretical elaboration in her scholarly works but are also realized at the level of poetics, figurative and thematic systems, and intertextual connections of her poems. Philological poetry serves as a paradigm that allows us to distinguish Sedakova’s work among her contemporaries and to offer a new perspective on the relationship between the scholarly and artistic dimensions of her work. In this context, Sedakova emerges as not merely one of the authors of Soviet uncensored poetry, but a poet-philologist who inherits this rich and relatively unexplored tradition, originating in the works of Annensky, Ivanov and a number of other authors.
