Researchers Develop Method for Direct Generation of Regulatory DNA
Researchers at HSE University have developed a model for generating promoters and enhancers—DNA sequences that regulate gene activity. The model works directly with DNA nucleotides, without first transforming them into a continuous numerical representation. This solution could be useful for applications in synthetic biology and gene therapy. The study results were presented at the ICLR 2026 Workshop ‘Generative AI in Genomics (Gen^2): Barriers and Frontiers.’

The effect of induced flow on the water wave skewness

Physics of Fluids. 2025. Vol. 37. No. 8. Article 087192.
Slunyaev A., Kokorina A.

Nonlinear wave-induced perturbations are discussed within the framework of the second-order theory. Due to the slow attenuation of the long perturbations with depth, they modulate motions beneath surface waves down to the bottom and can strongly affect the wave statistics. The disturbance which corresponds to the second harmonic, at a sufficient depth, inverses the phase, thereby qualitatively changing the shape of individual waves. The skewness coefficients of the surface displacement and the bottom pressure fluctuations are considered. It is shown that the bottom pressure skewness may have different signs and magnitudes depending on the water depth and the configuration of nonlinear
wave groups that compose the wave field. The effect on the surface displacement skewness is much weaker. Mechanisms leading to strong deviation of the skewness coefficient from the nonlinear Stokes wave theory are discussed.

Non-epitaxial perovskite polariton laser diode operating under direct current
Zhukov A., Kryzhanovskaya N., Moiseev E. et al., Nature 2026 Vol. 656 P. 80–85
Reaching lasing in electrically pumped microdevices based on solution-processed semiconductors poses a substantial scientific and technological challenge. Halide perovskites offer a promising platform for electrical injection1, as their optically excited single-crystal cavities2–4 and predesigned5,6 or postprocessed microstructures7,8 have exhibited low lasing threshold. Indirect electrical pumping of a dual-cavity perovskite laser was recently obtained9, using a well-established technological concept of embedding a ...

Shabanov N., Kuricheva O., Kurbatova J. et al., / Series Working Papers SSRN "Department of Economics Ca’ Foscari University of Venice". 2026.
The carbon balance of an ecosystem is the difference between Gross Primary Productivity (GPP) and Ecosystem Respiration (Reco) as expressed by Net Ecosystem Exchange (NEE). While remote sensing retrievals of GPP have reached maturity, Reco estimation remains underexplored and ultimately cast bias on NEE. Here we present an end-to-end multi-scale analysis of the mechanism of ...

Understanding the electric double layer at electrode–electrolyte interfaces, Part III: crystallographic-face dependence of silver capacitance in aqueous NaF solutions
Mazur D., Brandyshev P., Doronin S. V. et al., Electrochimica Acta 2026 Vol. 577 Article 149729
The electric double layer (EDL) at a single-crystal metal surface is controlled not only by the electrolyte composition and the electrode potential, but also by the atomic structure of the surface itself. This makes the Ag(hkl)/NaF interface a stringent test for continuum theories of the EDL. In the third part of our series, we examine ...

Hall effect in electrolyte solutions: Self-consistent Debye–Hückel–Onsager theory
Budkov Y., Kalikin N., Journal of Chemical Physics 2026 Vol. 165 Article 064506
A self-consistent statistical-mechanical theory of the Hall effect in electrolyte solutions is developed by extending the self-consistent Debye–Hückel–Onsager (SCDHO) framework to crossed electric and magnetic fields. The theory incorporates non-local ionic charge distributions via Slater-type form factors, regularizing the Coulomb interaction at short range, and accounts for dielectric friction through ion-specific coefficients, employing experimental values ...

The effects of no-slip boundaries and external force torque on two-dimensional turbulence in a square domain
Shikanian A., Parfenyev V., Physics of Fluids 2025 Vol. 37 No. 9 Article 095127
We study two-dimensional turbulence in a square no-slip domain without bottom drag using direct numerical simulations. The dynamics are shown to depend strongly on the torque $M$ of the external forcing. When $M$ is relatively large, a long-lived coherent vortex forms at the domain center, establishing a persistent angular momentum. At lower torques, the angular ...
