University education and internal labour migration outcomes of recent graduates

The study examines the relationship between migration and its results in the Russian labour market, which are primarily expressed in wage changes in conditions of high regional differentiation. Based on nationwide administrative data, we use a modified Mincer equation with Heckman correction to assess the gain/loss of migration, and a probit model with Heckman correction to find the main migration determinants. We found significant returns from migration for all education fields, especially among medical (15.8%), agricultural (15.3%) and STEM graduates (13.5%) and determine educational and employment characteristics as the main drivers of migration.
