Despite the instability of the digital financial system, the extent of the impact of the cryptocurrency ecosystem on systemic risk depends on the likelihood that adverse shocks occurring in the system may hinder the provision of financial and payment services to the real sector of the economy. Since the provision of financial services directly from the digital system to the real economy is limited at the time of writing, the main issue in terms of systemic risk is the degree of interrelatedness between the digital and traditional financial sectors. This paper explores the relationships between the digital asset ecosystem and the conventional financial system that were identified as a result of the shocks that occurred in both systems and predicts that these relationships will evolve as the digital ecosystem evolves.
